I won't be voting tomorrow, because I voted in the advance polls last weekend.

But let me add my endorsement to your call for participation.

Absolutely. If you're eligible to vote and don't then you really are not entitled to whine and complain about Canadian politics.

It was Mrs_P's birthday today so we went out for supper and was extremely pleased to hear our young waitress ask us if we would be voting tomorrow.

She stated emphatically that she too would be voting and also stated she would be dragging her 19 year old brother to the polls to vote as well. She said that she had made sure he understood the process and was informed enough to make his own decision.

As tipping tea into Boston harbour wouldn't really mean much in Canada, I was pondering a Canadian alternative for the 21st Century. Tipping timbits into the Ottawa river?

I disagree, abstention is valid political action to excise within democracy. Canada is not Australia ffs.

You may have the right to abstain but don't bitch about the result if you choose that option.

Nowhere did I say/suggest that people should be forced/required to vote, as in Australia.

I voted this morning. The polling station seemed to be quite busy, despite the rain. One friend I bumped into had forgotten his ID and had to come back with it - so he was keen enough.

Turnout at recent elections has been very low. Unfortunately the attack ads that have been running here are likely to reinforce any opinions that politicians are sleazebags. I wish they'd be more Canadian - play nice!

Warmly,

Frank
