Talking Dogs

This may sound funny to some, but

We have 2 labs and want to bring them out with us when we come over for good. Im worried about the winter, as been warned it is VERY cold. What happens with dogs in winter wanting to go into the garden so to speak.....

I had a lab when I was growing up (in Canada) and when we lived in wintery places, she loved the snow and the cold didn't really seem to bother her. She would lay in the snow, chewing a bone for hours... snow piling up on her head and back. But as she got older, she developed hip dysplasia and that's when the cold really affected her yet the cold just didn't ever seem to register with her. She would stay out for hours and then the next day be in a lot of discomfort - once to the point where we had to take her to the vet because she could get up or walk. After that, we had to make sure she didn't stay out too long and not let her be the judge anymore.

She liked riding on toboggans.

that sounds fab, well my oldest is 7 and she had 5 pups last october, we kept one of her pups so she is just 6 months old. Im sure they will love it then as they both love the snow here is scotland anyway. It was just the horror stories id heard of how cold it gets, but after all the posts here im sure they will be in there element
thanks to all

My Tibetan HATED the snow in the UK. He LOVED the snow that was left here when we arrived in March (probably because it was 'dry' and didnt 'ball' in his coat)

Well, I guess labradors are from Labrador (and I think it's bloody bleak up there!), so tell them to buck up and get on with it like their ancestors would of

My long haired Shepherd is really finding it tough as well.I take him out for a walk as early as possible, but the heat is really affecting him.As for the winter, the shepherd loves it and our greyhound is fine as long as you put a coat on her.

Same here, our long haired white shepherd has been just lying around the house and crying because of the heat (big brave dog ......) but loved the Winter. Whereas our short haired shepherd went out in -25C, gave me a sad look and lay down to die. I had to carry him back to the house. He got over the experience and quite likes the Summer heat.
