Air Canada allow you to take your pets as excess baggage as long as the combined weight of them and the container does not exceed 32kgs.
Just phone them for more info.
Its costing us £125 (ish)

A possible solution would be to sell the dog, and buy a new one over here.

Airtransat do still take animals on their flights but you have to use an agent. HOWEVER, the agent they use is called Clipper Marketing (will try to get the number if you want) and they seem to know what they're doing and they are cheaper than using someone like Ladyhay, etc. Have just booked our 5 dogs and 1 cat with them - unfortunately AT only allow 5 animals per flight therefore cat has to fly by herself on the next flight but the 5 dogs are all going on the same flight as us!
Good luck!

When I called them last week they said they do not transport animals on any of their flights which depart or connect in the UK:

Animals
Carriage of live animals is not permitted on Thomas Cook Airlines or Air Transat..
(unless this means on Board as in the Cabin????)

Air Transat used to allow animals on as excess baggage (in the hold) but they stopped doing that last year. You can still fly them in the cargo hold but you have to go via Cargo - if you call up the number I gave earlier (Clipper) they are the company that Air Transat use to transport animals.
It's easier if you go to the Air Transat website as opposed to Canadian Affair website I think.
Good luck!

How did you manage to do this with them?

I did and still a bit confused as this is what it says which I resume refers to N.America as further down it mentions not transporting animals in or out of UK and this is what they told me last week. If they do then it is good news for us even though it involves pet transportation company as you mentioned.
Many thanks for all your help and info mch appreciated. Will have to now work out if cheaper this way or via Air Canada with higher ticket price but lower animal price.....
PETS AND SERVICE ANIMALS
Your pet
We would like to remind you that no animals are allowed in the cabin with passengers with the exception of service animals (conditions apply, see below).
Only cats and dogs are accepted as animals for carriage in the cargo hold. All other animals are refused on all Air Transat flights. Passengers must be in possession of all animal-related documents required by the country of destination (consult your travel agent).
Advanced notification
If you are travelling with dogs and/or cats, you must reserve with Air Transat at least 72 hours prior to departure by phoning our Call Centre at 1-877-TRANSAT (872-6728) or locally in the Montreal region 514-636-3630. People who are hearing impaired can call 1-866-234-5136 (TTY) toll free within North America or 514-906-5196 in the local Montreal area. In Europe, please dial 00 800 87 26 72 81. This will ensure that the maximum number of pets per aircraft has not been exceeded. Passengers arriving at the airport who have not made arrangements in advance may be subject to denial of carriage of the animal.
Important notice
Please be aware that Air Transat (in accordance with its AVIH program) does not transport Pit bulls.
The carriage of this breed of dog will not be permitted under any circumstances.
There are already some countries/territories that do not allow entry to this type of dog, or that do not permit ownership of these breeds.
This ban includes the following breeds:
American Staffordshire Terrier
Boerbulls
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
American Pit Bull Terriers
Mastiff
Tosa
We would like to remind you that no animals of any kind are accepted on flights going to, from or connecting in the United Kingdom (except service animals – see below). Animals are also not accepted on flights going to or connecting in Ireland (cargo only) or Jamaica.

Re: Dog to Fly ..... Zoom Code & Option
When I looked into Air Canada it was VERY expensive to fly the dogs with us - nearly £5k!! With AT it's costing us less than £2k for all of the animals!!
Hope you manage to get the info you need!

Re: Dog to Fly ..... Zoom Code & Option
just to let you know we have brought two dogs recently with air transat you do have to ring the this number in I think its toronto 01 877 8726728 ask for clubclass reservations then say you want to book your pet you should then be able to book at a cost £125.00. They email confirmation to you. By the way I have taken this information from my pet invoice so should be right.
you cannot book a pet through any london office. also I had a pet passport done for each of my dogs and they accepted that in London, Canada and USA with out any problems.
I hope this helps.
