Default Does a TWP offer expire?

Hi all...

I've looked on CIC and on here for an answer to no avail.

My better half has been offered a job in Vancouver and intends to go on a Temporary work visa with me as spouse.

My question is relating to the time between a TWP being offered and that offer expiring.

We intend to have the TWP put in place by October, but there is a chance that we may not be able to travel until January 2010.

Is there a time limit or an expiration date once a TWP has been offered?

Thanks in advance...

Your TWP is valid as long as the LMO for the position offered is valid. So If your o/h has an LMO that starts in Oct 2009 and ending in oct 2011 then thats how long the TWP will be issued for. TWPs are issued when you get to Canada at the immigration side - you only get a letter approvong a TWP to be issued from CIC in London which you take with you when you go You can always apply for extensions to the TWP also.

The above is all iirc

No quite, LMO's are only valid for 6 months as of the 19/05/09, If you don't obtain a work permit before the 6 months are up, it is gone.

Our LMO was issued in june 08 and advised we had 12 mths to activate it.
we finally arrived in canada end of september 08, they then issued him a 12 TWP, so nothing to do with the LMO

He was only issued 12mths as he had a redseal exam to sit, they advised if he didnt he would of got 3yrs....................so will depend on what it says on your LMO, i know looking at others who have come over after us are different!!!!!

Good Luck

From HRSDC

1. What is the new expiry date for LMOs?

Beginning on May 19, 2009, a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) is valid to support a foreign worker’s work permit application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for a maximum period of six-months after it is issued. The LMO expiry date identifies the period of time during which:

* The employer must notify the temporary foreign worker that the LMO was approved.
* The employer must send the LMO confirmation letter to the TFW.
* The TFW must apply for a work permit.

"2. What is the difference between the LMO expiry date, duration of a LMO and work permit expiry date?

* The LMO expiry date is the date by which a foreign worker must have applied for a work permit. If a worker has not applied by that date, the LMO is no longer valid and the employer must apply for a new LMO, if he/she still wishes to hire a foreign worker.
* The LMO duration date is based on HRSDC/SC’s assessment of an application for a LMO. It identifies the recommended length of time that a work permit could be issued to a foreign worker without negatively impacting the Canadian labour market.
* The work permit expiry date is determined by CIC when a foreign worker applies for a work permit. It indicates how long a worker will be allowed to reside and work in Canada.
