I already have a list of doctors for the area, but have not had much luck in finding one actually taking new patients.
Anyone know of any doctors in the Oshawa/Whitby/Durham Ontario area in general accepting patients?
I was told a doctor has to refer me to mental health?
Its very confusing here and I am just trying to get connect and access mental health services.

if it isn't suitable then try looking for a mental health crisis unit. They should be able to help
OHIP only covers psychology services so counselling etc are often funded by the city, townships, charities, and so on. You should be able to self refer or get referred by someone on a help line. It's not uncommon to see people in Emerge asking for a referral.

This website can give you a list of doctors currently taking on new patients, you have to select "yes" under 'accepting new patients'
http://www.oshawaclinic.com/directoryofphysicians
It would probably be quicker to use the link in bats post though.

Thanks for the link.
Its so much different here for mental health, so I am very confused at the moment.
Its totally different in BC, so this is all new to me here.
Does anyone know if a psychiatrist or GP from out of province can refer to services in Ontario? Like can my GP in BC send in a referral here?
I am asking today during my round of phone calls, but figured I would ask here as well.

I was on a wait list for 4 month for a doc at Oshawa health Centre. Joined a few weeks ago, very nice lady called Dr Laura Musat. She might still be taking new patients. Very nice building too, much better than the big one downtown. Here is the link, hope that helps http://www.oshawahealthcentre.com/

I like how connected the area is with transit, we so dont have that in BC.

I guess I am technically in Whitby on the border of both city's.. I am still adjusting, its a change from BC, and the feelings I had when I first came to Canada have come back, yesterday I wanted to go back to BC when I got frustrated, but I just have to learn new things and how its done here, and once I have that down, I think I will be fine.

You could just try a walk-in clinic. Because there's a shortage of family doctors around here, some people just use walk-in clinics. My family doctor is in Toronto proper, but if I need a doctor urgently, I go to the walk-in clinic here in Whitby, of which there are quite a few. I've always found the one at Taunton and Brock to be not bad. Dr. Daiter (sp?) seems pretty decent.
I will see what they can do though.
I would not be so worried about a GP but I was told by the mental health place intake, I need a GP to access services, still need to see if a walk in can refer me.

I use walk in clinics when sick, but I have never found one that could manage chronic issues that require ongoing visits. Great for a random illness but not so great for chronic ailments.
I will see what they can do though.

I would suggest going to the link bats gave you a while ago - it states you can self refer. They also have emergency/crisis services.
