Default Do we use the same SIN numbers second time round?

Hi,
We have been granted PR, hoping to land mid September. We previously had PR, lived in Canada 2003-2011. When we go back this time, do we still use the same social insurance numbers? We still have our cards. If yes, do we need to notify anyone, or are they just valid and ok to use?
Thanks as always!

If your SIN begins with a 9 it is temporary and has an expiry tied to your work permit etc. OP mentions they were PRs so should have a permanent sin number.

Our SIN cards start with a 6. I had assumed we would just be able to use them straight away, but thought I should check!
Thanks guys.

It was more of a SIN is not for life if you are on an IEC or even a temporary work permit.

1. You will probably have to attend a Service Canada Centre to get them reactivated though.

SIN numbers are for life, but they go dormant. I'm a Canadian citizen who lived abroad for 13 years and had to attend an interview at a Service Canada centre to verify my identity and re-activate my SIN. It took about 5 weeks and 3 separate visits to sort out. In contrast, it took about 10 minutes for my British husband to get a SIN as a new resident lol.

I've had a similar scenario however for me it was only a one time visit to Service Canada, not 3 separate visits. After a couple of weeks a letter arrived. The letter sounded like a confirmation, and it was the same number I've always had.

I have no idea what would have happened in the meantime, if I would have taken a job or not? Absolutely no idea.
