If he's a qualified sparky, hes not going to change it from meeting code...

Its just the nature of 110V over 240...you need to pull double the current to do the same amount of work, and if you pull too much, then the breaker will trip. You can either run another circuit to one lot of outlets in the kitchen, or you can live with it.

Proximity to the bathroom has nothing to do with it Just try pluging the kettle in the bottom receptacle of the pair (or vice versa)
I'll give that a go.

Now I know what sockets can't be used together I am more aware if that makes sense. So if I'm cooking teens supper whilst she is spending the better part of the day fluffing in the bathroom, I know to zap stuff after the dryer goes on.

According to the electrician who is at this moment installing lights, plugs switches etc in our "new" kitchen the microwave now requires an outlet (circuit) all to itself as does the dishwasher and fridge.

Apparently code has changed once again in Alberta counter plugs are now wired differently and require 20 amp circuit breakers.

Oh Right! So when it's my turn to have a swanky new kitchen, my electrics will be fixed. I'll wait then.

When we moved to this house we had a 5 year game plan with one project per year, we have just had the 3rd Christmas here and the 1st project is still in demolishion mode.......I think I'm in for a wait for my swanky new kitchen as that was project 5

Oh bliss, dishwasher now installed and running. Managed to get some dishwasher salt from Cochrane Plumbing. They are a really good little store and OH gets most of his plumbing stuff/water filters from them and whilst getting new hose on Friday I thought it worth asking if they sold dishwasher salt or knew where we could get it, and low and behold they sold it.

It is a Miele product so I guess you know it is not cheap, but if it helps to produce nice clean dishes it will be worth it. It is also so nice to have a nice quiet dishwasher again, the last one had got so noisey.

Well the amount of salt used in the dishwasher is neglible really compared to a water softener. Since installing our new dishwasher I am amazed at just how clean and shiny the dishes are coming out compared to the old machine. I compared a plate that had come out of the new machine to one that had been washed in the old machine and the difference is incredible. The plate washed in the old machine certainly had a dull appearance. We could easily have got the dishwasher salt from Trail appliances had they not been out of stock (stock arriving any day) but fortunately as I said our friendly Cochrane plumbing shop stocks it so no problems now.
