as far as teams in Canada, I'm guessing Ontario would be the best. However, it's not always the team you play for, it's the level of skill they have, as I'm sure you know.
I would consider more about where YOU want to live. No offense to you boys but uk hockey standard is lower than kids rate of play over here. (not 100% of the time as there are exceptions I'm sure)
Get them into a team where you decide to settle, and maybe if they feel independent enough and is what they really want then perhaps then you could consider them leaving home and billeting elsewhere.
My other half was born up north in Thompson Manitoba, he headed south to portage and Winnipeg area at the tender age of 14 and lived with surrogate mother. (and he came out just fine lol )

I like B.C mainly for the weather and the scenery. My other half like Ontario, but I feel her draw to Ontarion is purely driven by the fact that we have friends at Thunder Bay, Unionville and Belleville. I can understand that whilst there are many rinks there for the kids it maybe a whole lot colder. I can also understand that having friends there could be good for helping us to settle but I just like the B.C side of things. I'm taking the wife and family out to Vancouver in October for a fortnight hopefully that'll shed some light for her.

I've to Canada around 15 - 20 times loosing count now. I've been to Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Winnipeg, Labrador, Toronto, Ottawa and so on. Never B.C.
Without blowing anyones trumpet, I like the Canadian attitude, I've never met a friendlier bunch of people, your air is clean, you have room to move, you don't have roundabouts, you have Ice Hockey (I'm sick to death of Soccer, all that rolling over and holding their ankle Malarky, does my head in)
The reasons I've mentioned bears is becasue every time I'm mention Canada, bears come right into the equation with my other half, hence my question.
Thanks for all your answers so far guys

There are some mountains but nobody goes there because a family of sasquatch lives there, they are protected by Provincial laws.
It is a 7 hour drive to the nearest city with an ice rink, that is located somewhere in Alberda but nobody goes over the border because of the guns and red necks.
Nobody in BC speaking English, it is mainly Mandarin and Cantonese.
50% of the population lives on Vancouver Island which is an outpost in the far east.

During the winter Red Deer has about 57 outdoor community rinks, I think there are 3 indoor rinks, maybe just two. I think summer started in Alberta5/6 weeks ago and if it's like last year shorts and t shirts will still be worn until end of October. It has been known to snow in June, july and August though. But the sun shines nearly everyday

This may seem funny to you guys but I have 2 sons who both play Ice Hockey, they eat, live and breathe ICE HOCKEY. Currenty the play-offs are on (as you know) and I can't peel my sons away from the set. My 8 year old son thinks his a Gretzky in the making and believes he'll be the first English man in the NHL, dedication is everything to him and he's at his local rink 6 x a week.
I'm trailing off course here, but anyways.................we are leaning towards and fancy B.C and as I think it maybe a lot warmer are there many ice rinks there? Ontario seems to be the place for budding players but you guys would be better judges than I.
I know it's probably a real daft question, but just had to ask! Be gentle with your replies and remember I am from the land of Dampness and with about 40 workable Ice rinks in the whole of the UK.
Thanks again
Garry

No question is daft. If it's any help, I live in the lower mainland of BC, have 2 grandsons both heavily into hockey - currently playing in spring league. They will play until end of June, and start back again in September. They are 12 and 15. Both think they are going to make it to the NHL - and I wouldn't be at all surprised! One plays AAA (rep hockey), the other plays House but will likely make rep this coming season. So, no lack of hockey activities or arenas here.
