We are looking into NS as our destination which raises a question on our application....
If we state NS as our destination of where we would like to be, do we have to stick to this, ie say after a few months decide that maybe its not for us there, work hunting etc.
Probably another daft question, but maybe even the daft questions have some sort of sense in them
Ooooh CORKY what part of NS are you based at? Was it really difficult to find work out there?

Hi Padsnbon,
We are heading for NS hopefully early next year will be there. In answer to your question, i think you do have to go where you state, others on the forum with more knowledge will let you know. My husband started emailing lots of driving companies last year and only one came back with any interest, but we went over in feb this year he had interview and they offered him a job, we told them we should be over by fall time this year which i don't think we will be now, so Hubby has to keep in contact with them and just hope they will still give him a job when we eventually get there. I think it's who you know when it comes down to work, but i'm sure if emailing everybody someone would eventually answer you. Have you started the process yet? We are looking at Fall River area, have family in dartmouth area.

Hello neighbour from Lancs
We've got the paperwork just to look at, but we haven't filled anything in yet. Our timing is crucial, cos if we get a PR it will fall right in daughter's final year, GCSE's etc, so we holding off for a little while. Sounds a lovely area you're going to.....we still deciding where at the moment, not too far out, we're kinda "no neighbour near us" type people, not too isolated but wanting the scenery
piccy or what
, but that's why I asked about having to stay in the one area, cos we might not find what we want. A visit next year is a must I think
Did you say driving? Trucks? OH is qualified with minibuses which he is currently doing for a local guide tour company here, but his main experience is in conservation, National Trust
Can you give me more details of the area you're hoping to move to
Dartmouth seems a popular area

Hi,
once you have landed in canada i'm sure you can go wherever want, if you don't like where you have chosen, but i think if you put down on your application that destination (NS) then you do have to go there first. Unless you have put down more than one destination. Hope that makes sense.

Hi....We live in a village its called Greenfield, on the south shore. We live on a lake. We lived in Dartmouth for many years and sold up and built our own home on the lake. As for looking for jobs, well what type of work are you looking for? It is the same all over, jobs just don't come out of the wood work anymore, you have to go looking for them. Some jobs aren't even advertised. I guess it is best to say find the type of company you would be involved with in what ever you do, and see if there is anything like it here. Or go door knocking!
I think once you become a PR, then you can go anywhere, I don't think you are limited to what ever you put on your forms. That is a good way to look at things, if you don't like where you are move else where. I started out in the country in Montreal then ont to Ontario, Collins Bay Kingston area. then TO and finally Nova Scotia. We are settled now!

OH is a Environmental and Conservation Manager (that's the shorter version) but we are quite prepared to go "job hunting" as his skill can be limiting sometimes, under that skill he can dry stone wall, forestry maintenance, ground maintenance etc etc he is also trained and qualified as a welder, but that was years ago. We've been told by one Canadian that dry stone walling could take off, but we're not holding our breath
