Dentist want £50 each for dental records!!!
Is it worth the £200 for us to get them?? Do we really need them? My kids hardly have teeth!

Almost Canadian will know better but there are Data Protection Act issues here. By law they have to provide you with information they hold about you, and I thought they could only recover about £10.... I may be wrong though...

I wouldnt bother getting them, they re do all your xrays etc when you get here anyway. If you really want them, you can request them under the data protection act as records that are held about you, they have 40 days to respond to your request, after receiving the £10 fee they are allowed to charge.

Re: Dentist want £50 each for dental records!!!
I asked my eldest's orthodontist if I could have a copy of her records. I was told it was completely pointless, as whoever the new guy was, he'd just have a look in her mouth and make his own mind up anyway...
She's had maxillo-facial surgery etc, but he just waved his hand and said 'cheerio'. No one has asked to see any records, and I assume he wasn't trying to cover up malpractice, so I wouldn't bother tbh...

Just to correct what some other people have been saying...
Under the data protection act they are allowed to charge you up to £10 if your records are computerised, or up to £50 if they are paper based, or a mixture of paper and computer records.
That's probably where they get their figure from.

Unlikely dental records will be computerised - x-rays are unlikely to be classified as computerised, even if they are stored in a digital format.
I wouldn't bother with them.

I had my first dental experience in Canada last month, first thing they did was put my head in a rotary scanner, and scanned all teeth and bones in my scull, followed by several x rays, the dentist after much tutting at the state of my teeth said she could put it all right but it might take a while. I got the impression she thought the British dentists still practiced in the dark ages. Dont bother with records They produce computerised ones here on your first visit. Might want to bring a second mortgage though.
