Dental Care
Hi,
Can anyone give some indication of charges for dental care in Canada. I appreciate this will vary province to province but a guide would be great. Need two fillings and probably root canal on one tooth, ouch! :scared:

Dentist costs vary a lot, and AFAIK most exceed the ODA schedule, if only a little.
At our dentist a clean and polish and check (about 45min with the hygenist and <5min with the dentist is $106 here
3 wisdom teeth extracted a couple of years ago was $1200
Dental benefits at work are good to have!

That reminds me. I'd better get to the dentist before year-end. My plan has a yearly maximum and I haven't been yet this year.
Plus, if my missus makes good on her threat to quit the army in the New Year, we'll be without a plan entirely.
(or not, as the case may be)

I had a biking accident, lost 2 and had one half stub reconstructed. Took months, cost about $5k, but those work benefits saved the day with 100% coverage for "Accidental Dental" up to $10k.
Maybe the moral is to shop around before treatment.

Some years ago I had an abcess under one of my molars. The root work wasnt done too well and I eventually ended up with a crown. A couple of years ago I lost it. It fell out and went missing before I could get to a dentist. I didn't do anything about it at the time because, as the tooth was dead, it didn't hurt (and it wasn't visible). Plus, I was broke. The stump has now worn down, pretty much flush with the gum. Am I now beyond hope of getting another crown? Is bridge work the only answer?

Re: Dental Care
If the tooth is still in there you might be OK: they can drill into the tooth and insert a metal peg to attach another crown to.
Might be worth asking in the sci.med.dentistry group on Usenet: I read it now and again (usually when one of my teeth starts hurting ) and there seem to be some knowledgable dentists posting to it. Just be prepared for some of them to point out that you should have had it fixed years ago .

I know I should have it seen to ages ago but I've had so many bad experiences at the dentist, many as a child, that I have a bit of a phobia. I tend not to go unless something hurts.
