My French is rusty... does it say they were in Canada in the summer of 2002 and cycling for world peace?

If so, it could be the same couple we passed on the road with baby in tow!

unlikely... manon, their daughter was born 1988, they have completed their tour in summer 1994. they went back to france because of their daughter's schooling, and it seems that they've settled down since then.
although striving for world peace seems to be something natural when you do something like this, they did more towards helping the local handicapped people (claude has been a builder of prosthesis's before they left for their trip and when they came back).

there are more of those freaks out there than we think. i actually stumbled over a link list of bicycle expeditions when i was looking for this particular book, but didn't bookmark it.

I was a bit taken aback when I heard they were cycling for 'world peace' (although a noble idea), it may have been better if they were cycling for Cancer Research or some other charity: as many others do.... we did meet a few, shall we say, interesting individuals, out there on the road!!

i know where you are coming from with that "interesting individuals".

as for fund raising - it is still a part of canadian culture i've to get used to. using a trip like crossing the continent for fund raising... i guess it would depend on the circumstances. i'm not sure if i would be ready for the attention involved with it. it's one thing doing a two weeks trip like the tour de rock. but to report back over several months and not having the freedom of doing a detour when you feel like it... (i'm thinking of what dave proctor did on his coast to coast for cancer 2007.)

Mr L2S and I are looking into doing this. Maybe we can have a BE team (or not if you read the "Do you speak to other Brits you come across?" post)
That'd be good, the only thing I'm not sure of is being able to garner the requisite $2,500 in sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues - will have to think it through a bit!

Funny you mention the charity aspect. It was something we discussed, but in the end we decided not to. We were just not sure if we would make it out of Vancouver, never mind cross Canada, and, in the end, felt that we didn't want to let people down who may have been counting on us.
