although striving for world peace seems to be something natural when you do something like this, they did more towards helping the local handicapped people (claude has been a builder of prosthesis's before they left for their trip and when they came back).
there are more of those freaks
out there than we think. i actually stumbled over a link list of bicycle expeditions when i was looking for this particular book, but didn't bookmark it.

I was a bit taken aback when I heard they were cycling for 'world peace' (although a noble idea), it may have been better if they were cycling for Cancer Research or some other charity: as many others do.... we did meet a few, shall we say, interesting individuals, out there on the road!!

as for fund raising - it is still a part of canadian culture i've to get used to. using a trip like crossing the continent for fund raising... i guess it would depend on the circumstances. i'm not sure if i would be ready for the attention involved with it. it's one thing doing a two weeks trip like the tour de rock. but to report back over several months and not having the freedom of doing a detour when you feel like it... (i'm thinking of what dave proctor did on his coast to coast for cancer 2007.)

Mr L2S and I are looking into doing this. Maybe we can have a BE team (or not if you read the "Do you speak to other Brits you come across?" post)
