Curry question???
 

Um... I hate to ask a question about our favourite area....Oakville....but can anyone recommend a good curry house there (or somewhere within reasonable no car travelling distance)? Apart from homemade and a rather fine Boston Pizza Chicken Tikka Pizza I've been curry free for 2 years! Just thought I'd make the most of an opportunity!

But just north of you is Brampton.... known localy as Bramladesh and for good reason...

My husband asked his collegues where they go for a good curry. The answer tended to be "at home". Sigh. ;)

There is a chain of curry houses in Canada called 'Mumbai Malarky', their dishes are delicious, that is until you discover the contents.
A read of the fine print reveals that Chicken Vindaloo is actually made from Seal Gizzards and Beef Satie is made entirely from Caribou testicles.

thanks for the heads up on this one guys, I appreciate the input. Funny enough I've just bought a slow cooker and am currently testing it out on a Tikka Marsala so I'm trying the 'at home' curry tonight....mmmm....

Just one question though.....are you serious about Mumbai Malarky????

On the note of caibou testicles....I mean curry, I used to like the home made sauces especially the ones made by...**** i've forgotten his name....ahhh LLoyd Grossman...does anyone know where to get some from...apart from waitrose???

Mrs CalgaryBlade stocks the cupboards with both Indian and Thai cook-in sauces (jars) from Superstore - the brand is President's Choice.

They are as good, or bad, as any cook-in sauces I've tasted. i.e. they are tasty but not really authentic.

Well, if you are ever in Kingston looking for a good curry house...FORGET IT! Utter garbage :eek: ...should be shot for contravening the Trades descriptions Act (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is). Going back to the West of Scotland in November for 10 days...and will pig out on curries....other than that, Canada is the greatest!

I bet they don't even come close to the chinese restaurant we have here, I ordered a chicken Curry and was brought a Celery Curry....What is it with these people and Celery?

I have a Jar of "Pres Choice" in the cupboard....But daren't risk it....Did the PATAK thing and nearly threw up.

Take a trip down the 1A (Crowchild) into Calgary turn left onto Kensington Road just before the river, head about a mile and on your left is The Maurya. Crappy looking building but excellent curries.

There's also The Tandoori Hut on 10th st but I prefer The Maurya.

They have an "all you can eat buffet" on Sunday lunchtimes, $12 per adult, $6 per child. Great value, the kids fill up on naan and don't eat again all day :)

Will have to try that one....Theres one on 16th Ave N? near to Petes drive in. and basically across the road from the brick..Thats a good one as well, and the waiters/Owners were very friendly, again there was enough food to feed calgary.

Yeah thats certainly what i will miss so im going to have a vindaloo before i leave next month :beer: :eek: :D

Any know if ican bring spices over from the uk on my flight I know meat and veg is dodgy,

Then ill just have to go back to making my own slow cooking the meat in spices and sauce, then serving it on a bed of rice and home made Naan :D
