Hi Again,
Does anyone know as I have a degree in adult nursing do I still have to sit an exam when I apply to the CRNBC?

Look forward to your help and advice with this

Simply Yes. Everyone who wants to work as a nurse in Canada needs to write the exam. I'm writing in 2 weeks but hoping to go to BC if I pass!! Exam only 3 times a year and you need to write it in Canada.

You will have to pass the exam, but not straight away.

If an employer offers you a job, you can get a temporary licence to work until you pass the exam. I think the temp licence is valid for approx 1yr? My wife was working here for about 3 months before she sat the exam (she had a BSc and 10yrs experience before moving to Vancouver).

As mentioned everyone has to meet requirements and pass the exam to be able to work permanently as a nurse in Canada. You can work on TWP before hand as long as you have eligibility and there is a time limit

Hi

Another thing to consider when you apply for registration with CRNBC is that you might have to complete a Substantially Equivalent Competency Assessment (SEC) before they will even assess your application. Not everyone has to do one, its for when they can't decide from your uni transcript, etc whether you have the same competency as a canadian registered nurse. If you go on either http://www.crnbc.ca/downloads/467.pdf or http://www.nursinginbc.ca/Sec.aspx it should tell you more about it.

I have to do the assessment and will be travelling to Vancouver in December to do it. It takes 2 days to do the assessment and its a mixture of written exams, interview and an OSCE.

Good luck with your application to CRNBC.

Hannah
