Speed (or lack of) perception in Canada makes driving dull. The start/stop aspect is just the icing on top of the shit cake.

That said, Canada Vs UK in this context is balls. It's dependant on location, surely.

Yes. But in either county most people spend most their time in the car in urban areas so driving conditions on the Isle of Arran or in Saskatchewan, while a matter of mild interest, are not a daily concern.

Driving in Canada, with it's straight roads and automatics, requires very little in the way of sensory awareness. Driving in Canada can quite easily be achieved while asleep or comatose, a benefit that many drivers take full advantage of.

I hate turning left at a crossroads when the green light doesn't give you an arrow. You end up getting two cars across legitimately and then eight more race across illegally. Heaven forbid if there is any pedestrians crossing. The concept doesn't make sense and I'm sure leads to unnecessary accidents.

I find driving here reasonably stress free and when possible I'm driving a manual transmission (we've just bought a little truck for teen to learn manual too). I find driving auto boring, however on a recent trip back to the UK I was relieved to have a auto to drive, the A1, M11 and M25 were not pleasurable drives at all, there were timed miles everywhere and it was so congested. I was exhausted by the time I arrived at my return destination and relieved I don't have to put up with that sort of traffic anymore.

The 401 sounds horrendous and I'm glad there is nothing like it where I am.

Yup - I'd second that. Driving in Vancouver is very relaxed, how anyone can complain about that is beyond me. I imagine the GTA is similar to here in Chicago. Stupidly low speed limits which everyone ignores, very aggressive overtaking, lots of weaving in and out of traffic. And the roads - my god what a mess.... Apparently it gets worse in the winter - I can't wait!

Similar. I had an on and off job in Naperville and, in another era, drove there monthly to a hospital. I found that there was some concept of lanes in Chicago but otoh there were the tolls. Six of one.

The tolls here are out of control - paying to be stuck in traffic makes no sense to me

There are tolls here too, of course, but no cash option so there's no stopping and starting at the booths.

I went to Chicago earlier in the year, the roads there are mental - don't envy you!

It was tricky navigating even with a GPS! Very nearly crapped my pants....

And yes, the myriad of tolls made no sense to me either!

Another thing about left turns without a filter is that you get a lot of idiots who don't indicate that they are going to turn left until the green light. Hence you end up getting stuck behind them because you, not unreasonably, thought they were going to go straight through. Twats.

I normally indicate in good time in that situation. However I do make an exception if its a BMW driver behind me.

Only an idiot would get caught in that situation more than once wouldnt they? Where there are two lanes and one has the option to turn left, its probably safe to assume someone in the queue is going to. Pick the other lane. Especially if its a route you travel frequently.

Im beginning to suspect some people that post here just like to complain. Anything will do.
