Default Couple of Simple Questions

Hello, I'll go straight to the point:

1)I'm currently a student in Canada I have 2 more years left in my student visa, I know I have to apply for permanent residence in the embassy of my own country (Mexico). The question is: Can I apply within Canada sending my application through the mail or do I have to leave Canada to apply and wait?

2) I already have my application ready to go. But I was wondering about the payment. Should I make 2 money orders (one for the application fee and the other one for the Right for permanent residence) or should I combine the 2 payments in one certified check or money order?

3) Does anyone know if the interviews are obligatory or do some people receive their papers without the interview or, in my case, if I'm in Canada and my application is in Mexico do I have to go back there for the interview?

Thank you in advance! :scared:

1. I think you can apply by mail, I applied from within canada through Buffallo (as a Brit here on a work permit) without going to buffalo, and i dont see any reason why mexico should be any different. Could ask the immigration experts in the canadian immigration forum to be sure. If you are able to visit the US legally, you may even be able to apply from within canada through bufallo, as your student permit is valid for a long time. Like I said, I'm not sure so ask in immigration.

2. One money order. Do you have to send both fees up front? The guides with the forms are usually pretty specific about that stuff. Typical payment is by bank draft in canadian funds, but it varies from post to post (eg in US you can use US funds)

3. Not obligatory. Many people get interview waver, many do not. If you have to be interviewed, it will be at the visa post you apply through.

Good Luck

1. As a Mexican citizen admitted to Canada for more than 12 months you have the choice of applying to CIC in eithe Mexico City or Buffalo.

- look at the general processing times, although these are a general guide only and may change.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/departm...2-skilled.html

- unless you have a US visa don't apply to Buffalo (as if an interview is required it will be in the US). If you apply to Mexico City, then any interview would be there

- bear in mind that Mexico City may be more familiar with your background (eg places you've been educated, corporations you've worked for) than Buffalo.

2. For payment of fees, the CIC office may have its own specific instructions - follow these to the letter.
