You could if you lived here, or something similar...that is for sure.

Beats the hell out of massive rent while you get settled and figure things out...and you still have something to sell when you are ready to move on.

Here is the question... could we survive on a nurses salary for about one year ..
One thing to bear in mind is that the nursing profession is bouncing back from recession to some extent. Hiring freezes for the past year (at least in AB - not sure about other provinces) have made it difficult to get in, but provided some opportunities (job changes and overtime) to those on the inside. If things continue to pick up, that will change as hiring restrictions ease. The AB nurses union has negotiated a commitment to hire most of the new grads as part of its pay settlement. So a lot depends on timing.

Also don't forget you'll be on a grad nurse wage until you've passed the CRNE, and they may or may not recognise your foreign experience in placing you on the grad nurse pay scale.

I have no doubt you have already found the Canadian Nurses association website, but just in case... here is the section for overseas (internationally) trained nurses and what is required: http://www.cna-nurses.ca/CNA/nursing...default_e.aspx

There is also the VON (Victorian Order of Nurses): http://www.von.ca/en/home/default.aspx

There is also some useful info at the Nursing One website: http://www.nurseone.ca/index.php?opt...mid=50&lang=en

Finally..... nursing careers: http://www.nursingcareerscanada.ca/

Worth a look but in BC there is a seperate stream for nurses and the association is actively involved in getting properly qualified nurses into BC:

Good luck - cannot comment on the funds but we live very well on less than it would require for the same lifestyle in regional UK (eg Salisbury or Winchester).

Amen to that...I have enjoyed a few visits to Vancouver Island...

Thinking about the island, I am reminded that I am a proud recipient of the gold bath plug award.

Presented by Nanaimo mayor, pirate Frank Ney. Not for the bath tub race but for rowing a 6 man raft for charity from Chilliwack to Nanaimo many years ago.

It was actually quite a hard thing to do.
