Default costs, dog and container

ok first we dont want to put the dog into the container before anyone gets upset. we want a container for all our stuff, and we want to ship the dog air freight with us ( he has a passport and we have the defra guidelines for the jabs he will need to be up to date on)

rough guide for a 20ft or 40ft container from uk to BC?
rough guide for a biiiig black lab in a box to fly with us or around the same time?

just trying to see hwo much cash this will cost us
thanks TJ

20ft container anywhere from £3500 upwards then you have insurance on top of that.

For the dog again can be anywhere from £600 upwards...but most around £1000

there are several threads on these subjects with lots of quotes and actual prices.

hope this helps

Hi TJ,

as for the container it will depend on the size and the company you choose

same applies for the dog, there are many flights that will take them which you can be travelling on too at the same time, it also depends if you can book it yourself or if you will be using a company to do the whole dog thing for you.

there is loads on both theses topics in the wiki if you did a search. there was also the same topic re dog shipping on here a few days ago.

we arent taking any belongings except sentimental stuff but we are taking our 2 labs and 2 tortoises. the labs weigh 36kgs and 32kgs, it also goes from their measurements and weight of the IATA approved carrier.

we got a quote from a company in surrey, the quote was for them to make 2 wooden dog containers and a wooden crate for the tortoises, delivery of the crates to the cargo at manchester and the flights, they do the paperwork etc. the price was £1950 as they are booked as 1 complete cargo weight. if we were to take 1 dog it was almost £1000. the more the weight the cheaper it is.

we are doing all the paperwork ourselves...rabies jab done..awaiting permits for the tortoises now.

i think the company was called petsaway..they have a website and dave is the contact he was excellent...whether or not you use them he will gladly talk you through the whole process. the website shows you the measurements you would need to make for your dog and you could email the dogs measurements and get a quote.

dave told me to check the date i wanted to fly..i think its air canada or canadian affair. he rings them to make sure they are able to take the shipment, he confirms if they can..you book your flight once you know the dog can go on the same flight and dave then books them on once you have your booking reference.

hope this helps

we used airpets for our dog they were brilliant. Our dog folowed us over few weeksafter us and they collected her from my parents house and were very good with her. We used Robinsons for the house container and they were faultless as well.
