Default Cost of removals - stunning

Hello

I've just had a quote (my first of four) drop thru the letterbox for our move to Edmonton.

They're asking £4695 - unreal. Does this sound about right? It's for a 20ft container, packed and listed by the removal company for insurance purposes.

I nearly fell over when I saw it. I knew it would be pricey, but that blew me away...but what can you do...it has to be done.

There is always the bright side to look on and that is our arrival in April.

Our quote to move similar quantity to Calgary by Fox Removals was £1,200 cheaper than that - going next month. They were the cheapest of our four quotes by far.

Freight cost alone for Uk-Edmonton is probably in the region of GBP2000-2500. So a removal cost in the order of GBP3-3.5k would seem reasonable. GBP4600 does seem somewhat excessive.

There were two or more threads on this subject a while ago and lots of quotes from various removals firms were posted so it's worth doing a search on the forum for removals quotes or similar and these should hopefully give you some more data to go on.
We were quoted approx £4,200 for 20ft sole use container London/Vancouver which included all packing.

To clarify, I'm talking Full Container Load not a partial (LCL/Groupage) shipment.
