Same here. Each of three Sobeys is a couple of minutes away from a Superstore (on foot, even) and a fourth Sobeys five minutes away from a Superstore cash'n'carry.

A Costco is in the same block as a Superstore and one of our Walmarts is on a road running parallel while the other is in the big Mall where one of the Sobeys is.

It was the same in Quebec where I lived before. Different names, but Metro, Maxi, Super C, Loblaws, Walmart...they were all a couple of minutes apart.

I have to menu plan and purchase groceries for my clients on a tight budget (support worker) so this has taught me how to shop more efficiently and become a much better cook (following the Canada Food Guide).

I shop wiser and now cook mostly from scratch for my family too. Tastes much better and I know exactly what I am eating. Fish pie tonight, but even simple things like home made burgers on the bbq taste a thousand times better than store bought. Just wait until the weather cools down (29C here today!) and I start using my slow cooker again

I agree with you. I'm here at present and will be for a while. As you say, food is so much cheaper, and I can buy half a cucumber:-)! My OH doesn't like them and it takes me a while to munch my way through a whole one!

Just got back from the shops where inspired by Amydavid I decided to buy a cucumber, it cost 79 cents.

Speechless - your other half should take the other half and beat you senseless with it.
