hi , we are shortly moving from the uk to alberta. Can anyone advise me of the cost of living in Devon for example. ie a typical weeks shopping for 2 people. And also what deductions are taken from pay (tax etc).
Thanks

Welcome to British Expats

Without wishing to seem rude, please use the search function, both these subjects have come up numerous times in the past, and there are many usefull threads, some even include grocery receipts, current prices etc etc.

The wiki may also have usefull information regarding taxes etc too.

Then if you have some specific questions Im sure someone will be more than happy to have a go at helping.

Hi and welcome!

It's generally said that the cost of living in Canada is about the same as the Uk - while some things such as petrol are cheaper, others such as groceries are more expensive so it all evens out to about the same. Your best bet to get some exact figures is to do a search of the forums (top right) which will bring up lots of threads where people have given exact figures.

As for taxes, if you look in the Wiki (on blue bar top of page), that has articles on tax in it I believe, including links to websites that will calculate it exactly for you. The Wiki also has lots of other useful information (including a 'to do before you leave' list which may come in handy for you!) so could be worth a good look at.

Good luck with the move.

Hi Polly

Welcome to BE which part of Aberta are you moving to. We are heading out to Edmonton as soon as the house is sorted.

As Iaink states most of the common questions have been asked, I have done a search for you, here is the link. http://britishexpats.com/forum/searc...archid=1025735 Some of it may not be Alberta as the search picks out all the words in your search I searched the words Cost of living in Alberta. You will just have to go through each post.

I hope this helps and good luck with your move.

Cassie

Thank you for your message. We have only had our house up for few weeks but husband has had phone interview for job last week with follow up interview this week and has been offered job. The job is in Edmonton so we will be leaving in that area.

See these previous threads:
If you want to know other information about Canada, you'll find lots of stuff in the British Expats Wiki.

Hope that helps.

With respect to your tax question, see Payroll Deductions-Canada .

There are many other articles in the Taxes-Canada section of the Wiki.
