Where in Canada? Its a big place, cost of living varies accordingly. Cost of housing in the GTA or Vancouver is not so different to bits of the UK. Other areas are dirt cheep, but salaries are lower. In a big city you might get away with one or no vehicle, outside you will need two cars probably.

Will you be buying outright, or have a mortgage. Are there kids? Daycare costs etc to factor in.

Here are some old threads for starters.

hi there
thanks for that.. we are being advised at the moment to go to either alberta or vancouver island. as iam a carpenter who builds houses we have been told there is a building boom in these parts.. we would probably rent to start then maybe a mortgage.. we have 2 grown up kids one of which is our apprentice.. so no need for child care... do you know what the house building industry is like in these places.. or would you reccomend elsewhere.. and how does the tax system work over there..

thanks .. steve

Steve mate, not being funny but Iaink has told you canada is a big place. He's in Ontario 2000+ miles from alberta all he knows about the situation over here is anecdotal (sp?). In fact any info you'll get is anecdotal really even from those of us in Alberta.
Try searching on past threads, trying asking specific questions about specific areas.
The tax system in Alberta differs from that of BC differs from that of Ontario (only marginally perhaps but it differs none the less).
