Default Cost of getting dog to Canada

Has anyone done this with Air Canada? Do you book it in at the same time as your flight? I presume you have to ring them to arrange?

Can you take your own crate? We have an XXL one.

Female dog - black lab weighs 4 stone 9lbs.

Any idea of cost anyone? (I dread to think)

Thanks

We were quoted about £1400 by Air Canada, we then checked Par Air and they quoted us about £50 more and they sorted everything. No brainer really.
Dog arrived in great shape, very pleased.
Dog is a 27kg bloodhound in a Vari Giant kennel flying from LHR to Winnipeg.

I've just looked on Air Canada's website - dog and carrier cannot be more than 70lbs....

My dog alone weighs 65. Not even sure which other carrier will take her? Help anyone...

Yes, dogs (including crate) have to be under a certain weight in order to fly as excess baggage. Otherwise, they need to travel in the hold. Although our dog was probably small enough to fly excess baggage, we still chose to use a pet travel company to arrange it. We used Airpets and she flew Heathrow to Calgary on the same Air Canada flight with us. This was nearly three years ago now and, bear in mind she was a smaller dog (Jack Russell), but it cost us GBP500 at the time.

Hi
I can only give you the usual advice, there's dozens (if not more) of threads about this, have you done a forum search?
Here's one for starters http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=728479 - but looking through that, I see you contributed to that thread already!
This thread might shed some more light http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=713255

Where are you flying to? We flew our Golden Retriever over 5 weeks ago with Thomas Cook through a pet carrier as you cannot deal directly with TC. They were great in particular the lady I dealt with.
They flew Gatwick to Halifax.
I can't find the paperwork at the moment as we are in between houses and the laptop the communication took place on is at the repair shop but if you're interested I'll send on the info in a few days.
For info it cost £1360 for a Goldie and a Kind Charles Spaniel, we bought the crates for extra.
Air Canada had quoted me £960 for just the Goldie on a DIY.

Hope that's of some help

I can't remember and the paperwork is stored and the laptop is in the repair shop. BUT we get the computer back in a couple of days and I'll be able to give you the info then. Worth a call anyway as the woman there was so so helpful

Yep, me again.

Top right - blue box that says 'search this forum'. You can search a specific forum (i.e. just the immigration forum, or all of them), and if you go to advanced search can also search by username etc.

I'm not being sarcastic (well, maybe just a little bit), but you did read the 'Newcomers to the Forum' sticky thread when you joined didn't you? That will give you info on how to do things like searches, and there is also a Frequently Asked Questions (on beige/pink bar at top of page) that will tell you as well.

Weight has little to do with it once they exceed 32kgs (the maximum for excess baggage). Size of the dog, or more accurately, size of the appropriate crate is the issue.
