Default converting weights

Hi all
I have several recipies that I got from a canadian magazine and of course they give weights in cups.
Does anyone know what the equivilent of a cup is in ounces ir grams?
Also I am missing good north american pancakes. Anyone got a good recipe?

Thanks

Penny

1 cup = 8 fluid ounces. Dunno about pancakes.

Penny, do you really mean that they give weight in cups? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I'm asking a genuine question.

The quantity of butter sometimes is expressed in terms of cups. I'm wondering if that is what you are referring to. If so, here are some equivalents:

2 cups = 500 ml = 454 g(rams) = 1 lb = 16 oz

1 cup = 250 ml = 227 g = 1/2 lb = 8 oz

1/3 cup = 85 ml = 76 g = 1/6 lb = 5.3 oz

1/2 cup = 125 ml = 113.5 g = 1/4 lb = 4 oz

1/4 cup = 62 ml = 57 g = 1/8 lb = 2 oz

1 tablespoon = 15 ml = 14 g = 1/2 oz

Thanks all for the answers.
Now I know I can try and make pancakes. I can't understand the ml thing either as it is a liquid measurement, but it is given for ingredients like flour.
Anyway the above chart is brilliant I shall print it and keep it for future ref.

Thanks again.

I was going to say it all depends on the size of your cups.

But appears everyone has a standard size cup.

I just use the same style cup for everything and level it off.

Bear in mind also that spoons are not the same. What Brits would call a dessert spoon is called a table spoon here.

Over here they don't do recipes by weight but by volume. So use the 1 cup = 250ml conversion for them.

another thing to watch out fore is the conversions. if you're using an english measuring jug, a cup is different, just can't remember if it's bigger or smaller though
