Hi
I guess I'd better introduce myself before I get onto the topic.
My names Phil, I'm 21 years old and I recently got back off a 4 month exchange program in regina sasketchewan and I absolutly love it out in canada to the point where I want to live there. I'm at university studying film and television production and I'm working on imigrating over the next few years.
Anyway, right now I'm apply for a 4 month internship with sk film companies but I've come to a bit of a stumbling block on my cv. I need to tell the companies what qualifcations I have and tell them what the canadian equilivalant is but I have absolutly no idea what they are.
I have 7 gcses.
english, english literature, maths, science, history, Information technology, design technology (wood work).
At college you take A-levels
I took:
English literature, media studies (film), history
Then I have As -levels which are half an a-level
in film studies (theory) and ICT (information technology).
And now I'm in my second year as a film and tv student.
Can anyone help me work out what my qualifcations are?

Hi
Found this which may help.
Canadian children graduate from high school (secondary school) at the end of grade twelve.
Grade twelve is roughly half way between GCSEs and A-levels.
So GCSEs are roughly equivalent to grade eleven, that is, one year short of Canadian high school graduation.
A-levels, on the other hand, are about a year more advanced than the Canadian grade twelve.
A Canadian university often will give a student a first year credit for a subject that the student has taken as part of his/her A-levels.
I would say AS level is similar Grade 12 Diploma level in Canada.

A road trip from regina to calgary then out to fernie in BC, I spent thanksgiving dinner in a small town in manitoba, i got to shoot a rifle for the first time and drive a tractor, I went snowboarding for the first time.

Hi,
Another way is to get your qualifcations assessed. There are many offices throughout Canada were this can be done!
check out this website
http://www.cicic.ca
It does say that canadian and british qualifications are equivilent. Remember though that a lot of canadian employers will not except uk qualifications. This is more so in unionized employment. This may mean re training is required or starting lower down. Another option would be to study full time in Canada! If your a year in to your degree they may let you start at this stage in Canada!

I'd agree with Scotty that you might consider applying to study out here, which would lead to qualifications that Canadian employers can relate to,
..... or apply under the BUNAC scheme, which might lead to temporary work permit to permanent residence ....
FYI: http://www.bunac.org/uk/workcanada/
Good Luck!

another one is IQAAL, they have offices in Edmonton, i took all my qulifications in, paid a small fee, think it was around $100, and a couple of weeks later when some verification was completed i received a nice certificate listing all my quals and the canadian equvilent, which was accepted and in fact requested from this organisation from my employer.
