Hi all,
Keen to understand whether anyone has continued or started contracting in Canada since their move? I'm an IT contractor in the UK and we are moving to Canada hopefully in August this year.
My current contract/client are happy for me to continue my contract in Canada, however I need to determine the best setup for this (either the Canadian equivalent of a LTD company or using an umbrella company to my limited knowledge). My current contract is deemed inside IR35 and therefore I am using an umbrella company right now. I had found a closed thread here from 2017 which discusses this, however wanted to understand what changes have occurred since then, and essentially the best way to approach IT contracting in Canada.
Any advice or recommendations with regards to services, umbrella companies, accountants would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

Numbered company in your Province of residence if your client is happy to be billed directly from a foreign entity with no name, most are.

This may help. How to start a company in Canada I was a contractor in Canada from 1986 until September 1st last year (when someone finally offered me a job) and billed clients all over the US and in several other countries from my Ontario numbered corporations. Tax malarkey is severely limited now but there are still advantages in using a corporation.

If you are resident and tax liable in Canada you will need to set up a numbered company. Very easy and quick to do. Getting a numbered company in Ontario will cost just under $500 when done online. If you only trade in one province, then it makes sense to get just a numbered company in Ontario. If you are trading across Canada then a Canadian company is required. https://apintertrust.com/ can set up a company and register for HST (VAT equivalent) within 1-2 hours. If you have no intentions of returning to the UK, then I would close your UK limited company.
