Default CONTAINER NOT FAR AWAY

Hi, well our container is due to land in Halifax some time today, or so they say. the wait is killing me and I am so excited about seeing my stuff. I have told the girl this end that we want delivery asap so hopefully shouldnt be too long. We have used Robinsons and cant fault them at all (YET). The only mishap we had was a lamp got broken when they were packing it all up but the chap was devastated and I really can only blame my OH as he had wired two together (you know the sort of thing). Anyway will let you know how it all arrives and see if the people this end are as good as in the UK.

Good news, Lisa. Keep us posted on the unpacking, as we are planning on getting some quotes for our move next year.

When did they take all your stuff, was it just as you moved over? Or a bit beforehand? Did you have a full container and was it reasonable? Sorry for all the questions. If you don't want to put all the info on here then maybe you could drop us a PM.

How is life so far? I may have passed you in Sobeys or Atlantic while I was there last month.

Hi Karen

Well our stuff was collected 2 weeks before we flew out due to house sale. The stuff then went into storage for 4 weeks, although we ended up having it sent over sooner due to house purchase here. We ended up having a 40ft container due to amount of stuff we bought over as my OH has a garage full of expensive equipment that he couldnt replace like a lathe, press, compressors etc. I think all in all with insurance we paid a little over £5k which I didnt think was too bad compared to how much it would cost to replace things over here. I would highly recommend you bring as much as you can even down to scatter cushions etc as things can be a little pricey over here, at least till you find the best shops to get stuff.

Well life is so much better than I could have imagined, yes do get feelings of homesickness every now and again but as soon as I go on skype that all fades away. We have met some wonderful people been invited to parties and made some lasting friendships. We have bought two cars a house and even a crazy puppy!!! All in all life is great and I dont actually miss the UK only the people. We have been to beach, swam in lakes and walked and my tan is better than it has ever been.

We are now living just outside Tantallon and loving it. Anyway sorry to ramble and hope this helps.

Lisa

We wish we had of brought a whole lot more stuff ~ Initially we couldn't get a sensible price for shipping and by the time we did we had sold nearly all our stuff. But it was probably due for renewal anyway!

It'll be interesting to see how the electrical items work, I was under the impression that motors etc run on different "hertz" and so wont operate. But 5k for the whole shipment of a 40' you cannot really go wrong at all.

It's wicked when your stuff arrives and you break open the boxes to find (in our case) all but one ornament in tack and then the stuff you forgot that you packed

Happy Days

yes cant wait to see what we have, keep remembering little things we packed and then get excited all over again. OH bought a massive transformer thing for his garage stuff that apparently works over here so will keep fingers crossed, also think he is getting new motors for some of the big stuff. Didnt bring stuff like kettles or toasters etc but bringing TV which is new and modern so hopefully with a digital box or something like that (sorry not very technical leave all that to OH) should be okay. We even brought sentimental stuff that we thought of throwing away but are now glad we havent, just hope we have the storage space over here as we havent got the loft we had in the UK!!!

londonhatter - perhaps it wont be too long ours left UK on 21 Aug and had a phone call last week to say it was scheduled to land 01 Sept and we could get it a few days after that as long as we clear it quickly so fingers crossed you wont be waiting too long. I know what you mean about the chairs though we have begged, barrowed and stolen (not quite but close) stuff and our house is very mix and match.

budcolin - I cant wait we are using Thompson this end so hopefully all will go without a hitch. I know its going to be a pain putting everything away but I dont care just want it here and to be able to sleep in my own bed and sit on my own sofa

Thompsons were fantastic Lisa....they even hand delivered a small packet they'd left in their truck...thankfully, as it was the pedals for my bike

The only trouble is, our UK sofa looks tiny in our Canadian sized house

we used my neighbours company. As they ship to Canada regular. I used their full service. Was well worth the money. As I was already in Canada I did not want my wife to pack all the stuff up so left it all to the removal boys. They packed and took apart all furniture. One and half weeks later was here ready to be cleared at customs. We are only 10mins away from the US border. So all I had to do was go there with the truck, get the form stamped then they then brought it up to the house, unpacked everything and rebuilt all the furniture. What more do you want.

This is their details and they collect from anywhere in the UK. Cheapest I could find and the best service.

When you ring John, tell him that “Dave your Neighbour recommended them” you should get a better price.

Lisa, thanks for that info, it's always good to get recommendations.

We already have a house which is basically furnished, so won't be bringing over our whole house, lol.

Hope it all works out good for you in Tantallon. Were you in Fall River for a while?
