Can anyone recommend a good consumer rights website or even book I can clue myself up with? Just need to know the basics.

I've been pretty surprised to come across documentation for stuff I've bought that says "standard 90 day warranty applies in Canada". 90 days????? Yikes. And you see a lot of "no returns" signs in Canada. If these things combined don't curb my shopaholic tendencies, nothing will!

Anyway, don't know if these are really "standard" so would like to find out the basics if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Don't go with shop warranties if the product is faulty ..return it ..regardless of no return policy. ..And the time limit limtation ..depends on the product . If you get a Lawnmower you expect it too last a couple of years at least ..since you don't use it everyday not the regular "one year warranty".

Some credit cards automatically double your warranty anyway.

Not sure about books. I used to have a text ( you know you're living in a capitalist society when you can take "consumer education" in high school ) - I'll try to remember the title--- though it would be waaaaaaaaaay out of date by now...lol.

Thanks both. Good to hear 90 days ain't the norm! I didn't know about credit cards, was wondering that too though...here if it's 100GBP purchase or greater I think they are jointly liable should something go wrong with the sale.

There are laws, of course - but it's very "Buyer beware" here, I find. Most stores, though, want to keep customers happy, and I find returning things here far easier and much more 'enjoyable' than in the UK. The areas to tread MOST carefully are the really big ticket items such as homes and vehicles.
