Hi
My husband, toddler and myself are currently living in UK! The economy over here is bad and job market dire as well as i am sure you are aware!
We are looking into moving abroad and although we havent been to Canada we are thinking about coming over to have a look around. I have heard that the quality of life is so much better over there which is def what we are looking for!
I just wondered what the job market is like? Rental prices for property out thereare like? And the economy in general!
I want to research every nook and cranny and most importantly come to Canada to have a look before making any big decisions!
Any help would be fab x

Welcome to the forum.
Start to read articles in the wiki (tab at top of page). Emigrating to Canada is not a simple process and it depends what field you are both in whether it is possible.
The wiki is a good starting point so if I were you I would start there and then ask more specific questions on here. There is a wealth of info on these boards.

HI - we moved here 11 years ago , with a 7 year old and a toddler, (and since had 2 more here!!)
Yes we still have family back in UK and feel so fortunate to be here... we love the life style, as where we are it is very 'family' orientated.
We chose Calgary, because we wanted to be near the mountains for skiing- but we did come on holiday first to get a 'feel'.
Costs for rent etc vary SO much across the country- so depends on what you are looking for in a community/city , budget and also of course jobs- what industries are you in?
Feel free to ask me any more questions- happy to help

Welcome to the forum, and some good advice already given!
My hubby and I emigrated 6 years ago and are now Canadian Citizens.
We have two small people and are very happy with how it worked out for us!
As already mentioned, the first thing to determine would be how you might be able to live and work out here.
Once thats established, then a research trip is highly recommended!
Good luck!

I think your first step needs to be to establish if you can actually get a visa to move to Canada, start with the Wiki (follow the link in my signature) which will give you an overview of your options. From what you've said, chances are that you will need a job offer to get you over there, which may not be particularly easy given that neither of you have what Canada consider occupations in demand or specialist skills.
As I'm sure you're aware, Canada has been in recession too, so it could make finding an employer prepared to go through the paperwork/hassle/wait of hiring you tricky. Couple that with the tens of thousands of pounds it'll cost you to move over, and tbh if the only reason for the move is the tough economy in the UK then I'd think again.
But if you visit Canada and genuinely love it, then go for it! Re: your other questions i.e. costs of rentals etc, it will vary massively depending on the area. Once you've figured out an area to target then hopefully people that live there can give you more info, and there is loads of info in the Wiki.
Best of luck.

Hi. As others have said, Canada is a big place and the job market and cost of renting a property will vary greatly from one place to another. A lot will come down to getting the go ahead to come out here as in getting a job offer/visa etc and they may to a great extent determine where you end up.
We moved across over three years ago. We were lucky that my husband already had a job offer. Like you, we didn't want to live in a city but also didn't want to live in the sticks so chose a town just outside Calgary which suits us as we have all that a town has to offer plus the countryside on our doorstep too (not to mention the mountains just a short drive away).
Also, being such a large country, landscape (and to some extent climate) will vary greatly too; do you want to live near the ocean, lakes, be close to a large city, be near the mountains etc etc.
Funny you mention legal secretarial as that's what I used to do in the UK! Did that for about 16 years although didn't fancy going back to that once we moved over here.
Anyway, I wish you all the best with your planning and researching; I know it can be a daunting task at times!
