I've just been to three hardware stores trying to buy a 3 amp fuse for an English plug.

They say they don't make those little fuses anymore as all Canadian plugs (not sockets) are GFIs.

Is this true?

I'm going to regret this ... but why would you want to purchase one??

Past experience says that short of cars & houses, buying a newer version of the old purchase is normally cheaper.

You can buy them but they are more specialized. I looked on their website and The Source (used to be Radio Shack) has them as they sell electronics components

I had to get some 1A ones recently for a transformer. You won't find them associated with plugs though because plugs in North America aren't fused and that isn't because they are GFI it's just becuase they didn't design them that way, hell they still make things with two prong plugs and no ground so I fail to see how you can detect a ground fault if there isn't a ground. Sockets or outlets as it were here aren't fused either, you have to have GFI outlets by code in locations near water like in bathrooms and kitchens but regular outlets are usually just straight forward sockets with no fuse or breaker, hopefully I guess they hope you trip the fuse or breaker in the circuit before you fry whatever is plugged in and overloaded.

Buying a fuse for a UK plug in Canada is like buying a Himalayan Yak corsette ... surprisingly you can't buy them here, but I'm still confused as to why you would want one.

Well some people like me brought over a laptop, monitor, computer, camera charger, etc all of which have a UK 3 pin plug on. I simply plug my 3 pin UK plug into a Canadian adaptor and bobs your uncle I have power.

When the fuse eventually blows it would be nice to be able to replace it rather than throw away a perfectly good electrical device all because of a 50p fuse.

Would be happy to post out some fuses if it works out cheaper than hunting some down.

Absolutely right Danny, I'm taking a whole shitload of fuses over as I have 6 electrical items which are fixed plugs needing adaptors. In about 3 years these items will be replaced with new ones but for the time being they all work fine, it would cost me a fortune to replace them all now.

We brought several UK electrical items over and never used them. Eventually they went out for the scavengers. The mini Hi-Fi systems went like a shot. The Corby trouser press sat there for days until the garbage truck came. I guess people didn't have a clue what it was.
