Frozen compost. Do we just throw the peelings in the garbage in the winter or make a frozen heap to defrost and go manky and composty in the spring?

I have gone for the second option, but theres a skunk - who should be resting but isnt who sniffs around the bin. Animals would be more of a problem too in the summer,

So whats your advice on a compost heap.?

PS am also worried about snakes nesting in there......

Just chuck it in. There wont be any snakes around... Too cold. They hibernate I think. I think they prefer somewhere drier anyway to live.

Racoons will probably figure out how to get in and take what they want anyway. We gave up on the "bin"types and just have a pile. The wildlife takes what it wants and the rest composts. Its not pretty, but our yard is big enough that we can stuff it out of the way.

We just keep piling it on. Nothing much happens in the winter but it all rots merrily again in the spring.

We keep on a-compostin' during the winter & have a combination of composting bins and wire mesh construction for the grass clippings. (not used in the winter of course.) The only challenge is digging the composting bin out from the snowdrift!

Oh no, it's not an 'offroad' snowblower. In fact a colleague ('nother Brit) broke his new snowblower first time out by trying to use it to move earth as well as snow! I just make the missus slog her way through the snowdrifts. Poetic justice really since she's the composting freak in the house.

No, I have already discovered that trying to snowblow a brick (albeit covered in a snowdrift) is not a good idea. So I'll be keeping to sheerbolts thanks!

I'm just keeeping ours in a garbage bag in a bin on the deck, then when the snow has gone i will move it to its rightful place.

I didnt get to be this size by using unnecessary effort

We chuck it in the green bin for the city. The garden gets rotted seaweed.
