Hi All,
We are moving over to Vancouver on the 17th!!!!!!!!
Getting nervous now, everything is starting to come together
It's strange how some people are pleased for us here and some are acting a bit wierd!
We will be staying in New Westminster for a month while we look for somewhere to rent possibly in Chilliwack (has anyone got any advice on Chilliwack?)
Hopefully all will go smoothly with immigration, we have a dog to collect as well.
Just wanted to talk to someone else who has made the move.
Cheers

Hi Karl and Wendy,
I'm excited for you. Although it's been thirty years since I was on my way to Canada for the first time, I remember that feeling as if it was yesterday.
You'll probably find it useful to read a recent discussion thread entitled langley to chilliwack?.
Getting mixed reactions from other people when you're about to emigrate is very common. Your move triggers mourning in other people, although they may not be conscious of their emotions.
If they react negatively, they probably are not conscious. If they were conscious, they probably would be honest, tell you what their feelings were, and share with you the source of those feelings. But, if they are not conscious, their feelings will come out indirectly, as abruptness or criticism.
What sort of unwelcome feelings might your move generate in other people? Well, if they like you or love you, they may be sad that you're moving far away. They expect that they'll miss you, and they feel sorry for themselves. Another possibility is that your relocation reminds them that their own lives are not going the way they would like. But, rather than identify what they dislike about their lives and identify what action they might take to improve their lives, they resent you for taking action.
At least that is my take on it.

Dear MOLLYANDPADDY
Hope everything goes great with your move - we live in Chilliwack following our move in March 2006..like everywhere it is not perfect but our lifestyle is in a completely different league since we moved. We live up on the hill in Promontory which I suppose is one of the nicest areas of Sardis which is basically the part of Chilliwack south of the highway.
Our new neighbours have just rented out their large basement & told us that there are much fewer properties for rent than potential tenants, therefore, they can pick & choose who they get. Having said that there always seems to be a steady flow of properties.
The housing market continues to grow rapidly here with lots of development & my advice would be to get on the ladder ASAP.
If you have kids or want to know anything about life here drop me a PM & I'll be happy to pass stuff on... go for it ... JD.

Hope it all goes well for you. I think Judy in Calgary is probably bang on with her comments. I'm in North Vancouver and the local hills are starting to get some snow on them. Chilliwack is a great place and developing rapidly now.

We had a strange reaction from a very dear friend a couple of days ago, we haven't really told anyone yet, she felt we were rejecting her friendship ( strange ) she now thinks its a wind up and won't talk about it, really worried about telling anyone else, think i will leave it and text them from the airport ( only kidding )
all the best in your venture ca here we come
cheers sue
