How much manufacturing is on Newfoundland? My husband is a manufacturing accountant? We are looking at NS but will not rule out other areas. Particularily the Atlantic areas.

There's already been a mass migration, Fort McMurray, east end Toronto and, inexpicably, several parts of Texas, are centres for the Newfie diaspora. Many Newfoundlanders would go home if only there was work. Of course, there's some nostalgia and more say they'd go than would, but still this is the sentiment up here :

Well, I left Toronto city on a train eastward bound,
Headed for Newfoundland and my own hometown;
I fell asleep in a coach car as the rain was pouring down,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

Then I woke up in that car - the sun was shining through,
I had a vision, love, I thought that I saw you;
You were standin' right in front of me and set my heart a-whirl,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

Well, I changed trains in Montreal, headed down Nova Scotia way,
To get the William Carson to take me across the bay;
I was so happy I heard myself say,
I'm goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

At last I'm in North Sydney, I think I'll have a beer,
I can see the William Carson tied up at the pier;
I'll have to save five dollars to pay the man my fare,
I'm goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

I guess around about midnight when we got under way,
I figured on six hours to take me across the bay;
And then I went into the lounge to pass the time away,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

Well, I must have drunk quite a few 'cause the time it sure went fast,
And when I walked up on the deck I could see old Port Aux Basques;
And I heard someone say we'll soon be home at last,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

My heart started beating faster as I stepped on Newfie soil,
I felt a glow all over and I broke into a smile;
I know the trip's not over yet, it'll be another while,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

Well, I've been gone so long, my friend, I didn't hear the news,
They say the Bullet's off the line - the bus we'll have to use;
So, let's get started right away, we've got no time to lose,
Goin' home to marry me a Newfie girl.

Then I woke and realized this wasn't happening to me,
For I had been in Kingston since 1983;
But when I serve my time, my friends, and they set me free,
I'll go home and marry me a Newfie girl.

Very little. I work for a electronics/electro mech outsourced manufacturing operation, about 200 people incl. production staff and I think we are the biggest 'manufacturing' operation in the area. There is some food processing (chicken), liquor bottling (NLC) and of course the fish processing business but thats in dire straits at the moment. Oh, and there is a bunch of oilfield fabrication businesses as well.

I think your husband needs to also check out the portability/transferability of his qualifications to Canada. Worth googling CGA (Certified General Accountants) or CMA (Certified Management Accountants) if you haven't already.

AX.

You're very much a glass half empty chap aren't you?!

Actually, the cost of the ferry, the length of the drive or cost of airfare seems to be no barrier at all to migration to Alberta. The paper is full of ads for jobs out west with paid relocation etc etc. Outmigration from NL is a real problem but its a problem that many other areas of Canada if not the world face. (NB included.)

I am a very much glass half full - plus tell it as it is - you will see I do include NB in my pieces.

As you can also see - I try to make it very clear that of all the Atlantic Provinces - NB is the best deal - from the point that they do not want thousands up front and held on "deposit" - where as the other three provinces do - and offer little, if any better chances - when it comes to PNP Business nomination and future success in a business.

In the end - with regard to the ease of finding "up-front" expenses for setting up a business via PNP Business Nomination - it has to be................New Brunswick, as the "final destination!"

If you are going via PNP! If not, I think personally that NL and NS and even PEI would be higher up my list of destinations than NB.

Certainly if one is considering a PNP Skilled Worker route - in the knowledge that one can achieve the "points" requirement comfortably.

How are you guys in NF after those near hurricane snow dumps in the last 48 hours.

It missed us here!

Well Saturday was pretty much a write off as a day, apart from the frequent trips outside to dig out the furnace flue from the ever increasing snowdrift! Its was pretty impressive ...whiteout conditions, really heavy blowing snow. St John's metro got around 60cm, we got a little less. Roads are really narrow with very high snow banks at the moment. Digging out involved a JCB, snowblower and a lot of effort. My back is killing me this morning!
