Do international students at Canadian universitys have the money saved to pay for it all before hand
or can they, for example take a student loan from the UK to study abroad?

That is an interesting question and one I haven't considered. My instinct would be that there is little or no financial support available for UK nationals studying abroad from UK funding bodies, but it would be useful if somebody could definitively answer this. I am hoping to be funded by my institution to teach over my 2 year MA and haven't even considered possible alternatives.

You need to prove that you have money in the bank while applying for a SP. The CIC website has the list outling how much exactly.
I personally am unaware of any specific organization hat can help with foreign study abroad, but am aware from personal experience that they don't seem too worried where the money has come from......they just want proof it's there. Look on the web site and it will tell you how much is applicable for yourself.
Both myself and another student were checked on funds at the point where we applied for a SP but never checked at the airport coming in to see if we still had the funds. Does that help?
