Hi there,
Myself and my wife have just moved to Vancouver, I'm working all day but my wife is home alone and is slowly going nuts not having any mates in this part of the world !!
She does stand up comedy and is a high school teacher. We're both cool people and we like to think we are far from pretentious but also far from stupid. I am a sales manager at Vancouver Convention Centre. I am 30 and she's 33.
She is seven months pregnant and bored. Is there anyone female living near West Broadway up for a coffee sometime?
She doesn't know I'm writing this and would kill me if she knew I was offering her company!!
But I really want to help her and I think some nice company would make her feel less useless. For some reason having not working makes her feel less of a person apparently. Silly I know, but understandable and common amongst preganant women not working.
Anyone up for a coffee?
Many thanks
Alex

Thoughtful bloke, although I suspect she will do you when she realises you posted this. Horrible feeling being at home, bored and feeling professionally castrated.

I understand the bored part, I've been "unemployed" for over 4 years now, ever since I quit my job to move with the wife. Whilst I wouldn't like to go back to work I do understand the bored part. Basically it takes time to adjust to having a whole day to fill, being in a strange city doesn't help.
First off it takes time to adjust to not working, it would be no different if you both had retired. The key for her to find a way to fill her day, of course once the baby comes that part will be taken care of, but it won't replace the lack of friends or fulfillment that she misses. Best thing is to get involved in the community, volunteer, join a church group or what ever. there are no shortage of opportunities.
Unlike if you moved to some where else in Europe she doesn't have a language barrier.
I'm currently in Spain and can you believe it I'm actually home sick for Germany! Has lot to do with the fact few Spanish speak English and I don't speak any Spanish.
But I've adjusted to being on the road. Hard to believe you get used to being by yourself.
