Angry Closing an account with BT

What a nightmare :curse:

Five months here and we are still having problems.

Firstly they cut us off 1 month early so we have to have another account set up for 4 weeks, doh! . This led to lots of trouble because our unbeknown to us our existing direct debit was for our original account so this 1 month bill had to be posted - of course we had moved to Canada by then.

Even though they had our address in Canada we received a final demand bill for £58 even though we did not receive an normal bill. From the date of their final demand, this took 6 weeks to arrive in NS. By that time the creditors were after us. I emailed and called BT - getting a telephone number for them was a nightmare, and 08 numbers are premium rate from here. Paid BT the outstanding bill and they called off the creditors.

Four weeks later a letter from the creditors arrived. Got back in touch with BT via email and phone and they said they would sort it out.

About 1 month later we received another bill from BT saying they were owe us the pricely sum of 96p . They deposited it into our UK bank account, but wait for this.................. they gave us back £1 so overpaid us by 4 pence. So a month later they sent a bill to us for 4 pence :curse:. Called them up again and they say they have cancelled it. Watch this space

Finally, last week a letter arrived again from the creditors saying we own them £14 fees. They sent it landmail and it took 6 weeks to arrive. So according to them we have defaulted on their fees as we could not pay them or sort it out again with BT with the 7 days stipulated. Another call to both them and BT followed. The creditors say they will send out another letter once they have contacted BT - wait for it................ they don't send by airmail so snail mail it will be.

When we left the UK we got an Equifax report which was clear, showing that we have never defaulted on any payments for any bills/loans etc. Now I fear that we may be blacklisted.

We are very angry and upset with BT and would like people to be vigilent with them. They were the ONLY company we had trouble with. Now we fear we have been blacklisted.

Don't worry, no-one in Canada will take the slightest bit of notice of your UK credit record. Certainly not in the form of a reference from a credit agency anyway - maybe if you had an account with the same company in the UK, but even then - probably not.

Ouch!!
Sorry to hear you had so much aggro, we kicked BT into touch a few years back and moved to Cable, due to a similar problem.
I wouldn't worry to much about your credit report, unless your planning on moving back to the UK within the near future. It only lasts on your records for Five years.
And as I'm sure your aware your UK credit score means diddly in Canada.

Good luck with BT, I hope it all ends well.

Our 'Problem Account' Was with Mid beds council tax:curse: What a bleeding nightmare. My Mum was on first name terms with them trying to get it sorted. Finally September last year - after giving them the new owners name etc (the house has been sold 3 times since we moved). My Mum couldn't cope with it anymore - just too much with the chemo etc, she cried on the phone to them (My Mum NEVER cries). We haven't heard anymore....so far.

And before anyone says "why didn't you deal with it yourself?" My Mum didn't let me know there was anything going on....Until after it was dealt with:curse:
