Default climate in toronto

Hi,

Wanted to know what the climate in toronto is like and how it compares to say the south east of england /london.

So far I have only seen the info on websites which suggest winters are colder (and can be much colder) than here in the UK, but summers can be warmers than here.

Would like to hear the opinion of some actual people if possible

thanks

That's pretty much right, from my limited experience of southern Ontario. It's a big place, and it tends to be colder in the north of the province.

Hi, I too was wondering how the weather would be in Toronto from mid to late Oct, does it get really cold or can it still be quite mild. We're coming over on a reccie visit and was wondering what to pack. We've only got 20 kilos of luggage allowance, so can't pack the kitchen sink like I ususaly do.
We're hoping to include Ottawa in our trip and know it can be a bit colder there.

Summer is usually in the high twenties, low 30s , sometimes mid 30s for short periods (although cooler this year ), with sweltering humidity making it feel hotter than that.

Winter..snow on ground from late dec to late April typically, but generally blue skies and sunny. Occasional fluries could happen anytime from late october on, but nothing permanent, and the last few years it hasnt really happened till well into December, which is not to say it will always be like that. Few days down in -20, but mostly -10ish. Coldest overnight ~-30C, worse with windchill. Usually have to shovel fresh snow twice a week on average, but it varies, sometimes three or fourtimes a day if the wind is blowing it back on the driveway.

Currently around 20C, Late october you could get almost anything, including some flurries, or at the other extreme an indian summer, or at least high teens. Ottawa will usually be a few degrees cooler that TO this time of year, and a lot colder in the winter as its away from the lake.

I was surprised by the high humidity in the summer, and how dry and sunny the winters are compared to the UK.

A good rule of thumb is expect snow after Nov 1st..

At the monent it can get down to 6 -7 degs at night and rise up into the 20's by mid day..

I would treat late October in Toronto like a Uk winter.

Summers can be very humid. AC is often seen as necessary. There's quite a bit of rainfall but it tends to manifest itself in violent thunderstorms.

That being said, this summer was the coolest and cloudiest I've ever seen here, and I've been back here now for 14 years. The weather is getting wierd all over the world.

But winters are much drier than the UK. And everywhere is better insulated too. People know how to bundle up here for winter too. It really is a different kind of cold and I know it's hard to believe, but the last time I visited the UK in January I felt generally colder than I would in Toronto.

Once again though, last winter was one of the coldest and longest I've experienced, while the previous three winters were unusually mild with very little snowfall. And right now as we head into October it feels like the summer we didn't get. So you just never know.

Autumn/Fall is generally lovely with the trees turning violent oranges and reds (thus the flag). But Spring is disappointing here in comparison to Britain or British Columbia. March is basically a winter month and in April and May it rains a lot as you watch the grass turn from brown to green before turning over rapidly over to summer.

Actually I believe it was a reference to relative humidity and the feeling of dampness in the air that you dont get here. Got to agree about shovelling though, its good excercise, but winter here is at least a month too long, and the novelty wears off!

You can watch the moisture crystallise out of the air here when it gets cold suddenly ... it looks interesting.

Actually, pretty normal, or even nicer than normal for this time of year. You'd better get used to it Dan, its downhill all the way for the next 6 months!

OK, well, maybe my memory has gone downhill.. I've been in Canada for 3+ years now, and I don't remember end of Sept being this cold. It wasn't this cold 2 days ago.

yikes..

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/wea...s/CAON0696.htm

Oct 6 forecast low: 4 °C :scared:

Damn, it's raining on Oct. 2. I'm going to Niagara Falls.. hmm..

Don't get me wrong! I'm a huge fan of winter. Nothing better than some whiskey to warm the stomach and the Christmas tree (although I'm an atheist) and some Christmas songs.

Is it just me, or do people here get in the Christmas mood very early? They're already decorating the malls..

I think you'd better buy a new calender and throw that one of 1996 away. Today is actually THE LAST DAY OF SEPTEMBER.

Nice climate!
