Hi all
Heres what we're looking for:
close to mountains.
close to mountains.
good schools and activities for the children
electrical work for my partner
close to mountains
obviously this is a very short and stupidly basic list, but we've only really looked at Calgary and Vancouver and set our hearts on Vancouver! Is there any other places we should be considering?

So, let me guess...........you want to be close to mountains?!?
Depends what you want to do there and what you define as 'mountains' really - if you just want to be able to go skiing occasionally then there are loads of other ski resorts close to cities such as Montreal, Toronto, etc. But they aren't to the same standard as Whistler, Banff, etc. More big hills than mountains I guess!

Edited to add: when you say 'electrical work' for your husband, what do you mean? Is he an electrician?

ski??
oh my gosh no!
haha we snowboard...but our 2 children ski (till they are old enough to snowboard.)
Yes partner is an electrician, so he's got a lot of studying to do before we can think about going. (for his Canadian qualificiation that is)

Ooops, sorry - I'm a skier so I tend to forget about you monoboarding types!!
If you want world class skiing and will be doing it regularly then sounds as though Vancouver or Calgary will be best as you've already established, but do check out the ski resorts for other cities as they may well be good enough for you to just have a go at weekend, so that would open up other areas to you.
And I saw on your other post you're thinking of North Vancouver - that's where we're heading next year, hubby will be working downtown and North Vancouver seems to tick every box for us! I'm assuming you've looked on http://www.mls.ca for listings? Just be prepared for it to be very pricey, most houses are over a million. We're going to rent at least to start with, and have budgeted £3,000-4,000 for a 4 bed house.
And have you seen this Wiki article? http://britishexpats.com/wiki/North_Vancouver

Thanks for your reply.
Yes we were thinking about $3000 was a sensible budget for a 3 bed house, for me its all about the location and North Vancouver ticks all our boxes too. Grouse Mountain has night riding which the thought of actually gives me butterflies.
We can't get enough of snowboarding (well rails and kickers really) so I think our first choice was perhaps what we should go for.
Thanks for those links as well

No probs. Also, for rentals I've found Craigslist quite good (just google it).
How old are your children?
Good luck.

Thanks Blue
I'll pass it on to our lads. Congrats against Chelski.
I tend to use Kijiji more than Craigslist for stuff these days.
