Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
Hi
Mr L2S and I have our Citizenship Test next week. We have: - the Study Guide - the only line guide - the on-line tests - the podcast So I feel we are set for the material for revising. But does anyone have any hints or tips? Is it true that there are some "pass or fail" questions? Thanks L2S |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
Its been a while since I did it, but you did have to get the voting rights bit right. Its really a no brainer though, unless its been toughened up since back in the day.

Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
Did mine 3 weeks ago ish.
No fail Questions 20 Multi choice, you need 15, you should be getting 90-100%, its just the stuff in the book Use the online tests and apps. Read the book listen to the Audio in car and your good to go. Hint would be read through first and answer all Q in your head before Ticking a circle, that way u don't skip past any questions, leave a gap and accidentally answer in the wrong box. (Answer sheet is a separate document with numbers and letters easy for some to get mixed up) All exam sheets are mixed up, so no copying as the person next to you will most likely have a different question sheet. Try this site http://www.yourlibrary.ca/citizenship/ |

Check out the free app in my sig. Just keep going over the questions till you know all the answers correctly.
My wife and I did just that after reading the book and we found the real test easy. |

Hi
Mr L2S and I have our Citizenship Test next week. The test is a bit tougher than when iaink and I did it. However, it is still something that an English speaker who has read and disgested the booklet has no need to fear. There are many online sample tests to practice on. E.g. http://www.yourlibrary.ca/citizenship/ |

Have a few drinks beforehand.

Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
I came away from mine with the firm impression that a monkey armed with a pencil was capable of passing.
As long as you know that Chicago isn't one of the prairie provinces you should be fine |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
I did so many of the online tests, but then found that several of them hadn't been covered when it came to test day. Everything is in the book they send you, just read that a lot. Hubby took it to work and was reading it there, so I was using the online tests, he knew answers that I didn't.

Granted a few of the questions did involve some knowledge of the country |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
I finished my test in under two minutes, there was one question I hesitated on, I'm sure if you search on here I mentioned it in the past. Basically it was a poorly worded question. Got 100%.
People on here seem to think it's harder in Vancouver, not sure why, but there are questions like, what are the main industries in the province, oil and gas, etc. which are mind-numbingly easy. Really I thought it was more a test of whether you understand English. If you're British and have any clue at all you'd be hard-pressed to fail although AC seems to think otherwise. All that effort remembering who the Lt. Gov is and the War of 1812 and there weren't any questions on things like that. |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
It all depends on which question booklet you get, I found the test quite easy, but others I spoke to found it hard and were unsure if they had passed.
I was asked by one guy "what got burned down in Ottawa" a question he got and not I, when I told him the answer he said "hmm that's one I know I got wrong. " Lol |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
I think hubby and I each got one wrong, but we know that because we randomly ended up with the same paper so were able to compare after. I'm assuming that the people who sit the test together would likely be at the same ceremony, we recognised one person from our group, none of the rest seemed to be there. Not to say that I have a photographic memory, but I tend to recognise a face I've seen before so to recognise nobody else from our group seemed to indicate to me that they had not all passed.
I think the test is supposed to be harder than it used to be, but I really don't think it's that difficult either, especially when they essentially give you most of the answers in the book :) |

Things must have changed..... I did my test in Feb 2013 and I never got the result - Only "Successfully met the requirements" The test has definitely changed - there are good online practice tests but I had a couple of questions that I hadn't seen before. As said - delete two answers, stab at a third. I just counted through those that I was certain certain of getting right, I knew 16 were absolutely correct and so handed in my sheet. Do revise - I think you need too - I doubt anyone would pass without revising, or a good base knowledge of Canadian History, Geography or Politics. Good Luck |

Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
Thanks JonboyE
I can't remember when we last "spoke" We now have 2 Little L2S. The oldest just turned 4 yrs and will be continuing to learn to ski this year. She had a brief go last season and LOVED it. She has taken to ice skating like a true Canadian. It's her birthday party tomorrow (entertaining 16 four year olds for an afternoon isn't very compatible with revising though) The littlest was born July 2012. Hard core little guy. Was walking at 10 months. Can kick a mini football as good as a 3 year old. Desperate to get on the ice when he goes to watch his sister's lessons. And the best part is that they adore each other...PHEW Hope all well with you |

Good Luck It sounds like the difficulty of tests is highly variable. Mine was so easy that it really only tested language skills. I certainly would have passed (with less than 100%) without any study at all, and I think I would have scraped a pass before I even visited Canada! |

I would say that the online tests (links on this thread) are harder than the real test, if you can answer them u will be fine on the day. |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
Are all the questions only in text format, or do any use picture or photos?
There are a lot of photos in the study so wondering if we should *learn* them too |

I had about a month's notice for my test - we moved house last April, and my booklet was (and still is!) somewhere in one of our unpacked moving boxes - I ended up downloading the PDF on to my computer and iPad, etc. and found that going through it on my iPad was a very easy way to go through the various sections. If you know anything about the UK political and legistlative systems, I would say you've got a head start on others - but even so, it's not that hard to get your head around. Canadian history... well, that's there the rote learning comes in. If I can do it, I reckon anyone can ;) As with many multiple choice test formats, the "process of elimination" trick with some questions works. I had one trick question (in that I misread it when I first skim-read the exam paper). It took me about 4 minutes to complete the exam, so I killed time by re-reading the paper and my responses a couple of times... and realized my error. As stated by others, they so indeed tell you your test score on the day. In my case, I somehow got 100%! I was expecting to get a couple wrong, as I was averaging 90% on the free online tests (which are very good - they don't give you everything, but certainly give you a good feel of what to expect in terms of format and wording/tone). Good luck! |
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
It's not guaranteed that they will tell you on the day if you pass, or that you ever get your actual score, we got neither, just an invitation to our ceremony in the mail a few weeks later :)

Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
ok......45 minutes to go
I'm wearing my Lululemon yoga pants and Roots Canada t-shirt, carrying a cup of Double Double.....if I fail I plan to tell the Judge that I was too busy taking my kids ice skating and volunteering for my local community to have time to revise |

Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
We both got 20/20 (lots of online tests) but are still waiting for a ceremony 5 months later.... hope yours is quicker than that.
|
Re: Citizenship Test - hints n tips please
we both passed :D
As you all advised, not super easy but read the book forwards and backwards, do some on-line tests and use your common sense. I don't know what our scores were but never mind. After the test we had a 3 hour wait for our verification of documents. One the plus that is the longest that Mr L2S and I have had to just sit and be since the Little L2Ss came along .... it was quite pleasant just sitting together with nothing else we could do but chat. 3 - 5 month wait for the ceremony. I'm hoping we score Canada Place on Canada Day but I won't hold my breath. |

Hmm, not a great score. Justin would be unimpressed by this. I've never knowingly heard him. That alone justifies my Sirius subscription. |

I don't see any hope Mr Oak, maybe find a way that you can live in the wild until you have been cured of this nasty Beaber spell that has been put upon you.

To my everlasting shame - I hesitate to post this in a public forum - I got 7/10 on this quiz. I could try and wriggle out by claiming that most of my answers were lucky guesses, but such a denial would only hasten the inevitable descent into the dim world of fanatical beliebers and pet monkeys [really? I thought that was the joke answer - who the hell takes a monkey with them on tour?].

It's not that I have any interest in Bieber himself but my interest in Social Media means that some knowledge of him is unavoidable. That is my story and I'm sticking with it. |
