I've noticed on many threads that when you apply for citizenship the Powers That Be will send you a test date and booklet. Although I'm not due for a long while yet, does anyone know if I can get hold of a booklet anywhere??? I'd really like to start early and be confident as I have a real problem in testing situations (remember the driving test thread
???)

Haven't taken the test myself, as I still have a while to go yet, but from what I have read about it, on sites that includes settlement.org
The test is made up of multiple-choice questions about Canada, including Canada's history and geography, and about the political system.
To prepare for the test, you can take a Citizenship class.Citizenship classes are generally free or low cost and cover topics such as:
Canadian Geography
Canadian Economics
Canadian History
Canadian Government (3 Levels)
Voting in Canada
Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship
Canadian Culture and Symbols
Current Events
These classes are offered by English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, community centres or settlement agencies to prepare for the test.
Most organizations that offer English classes also offer Citizenship classes.

An American guy I worked with wrote the test in early summer - he said it wasn't anything to sweat about. The only people writing it at the same time as he did that seemed to have problems didn't have have very good English.
I've got two months until I can mail the application form - hopefully I'll be a shiny new Canadian citizen in time for Alberta's 100th birthday party next year.
I set up a company in Alberta last year - according to the legislation you have to be "Canadian" to register a company. I checked with the registry people and they confirmed that counted PR's too, which I thought was pretty cool.

I also came across this when I was looking into the whole citizenship thing, some of it might help you if you are not in Ontario, but if you are, then this applies to you:

You are welcome ! Its a pleasure, this is what we are all here for, to share our knowledge and experience. I have learnt a lot from others, and it helped me during my ordeal.
There sure is a lot there to take in, considering the test only has 20 questions from what have heard, but the ones on voting, must be passed !

Read the booklet, practice with the online tests (Richmond Library) and you cannot go wrong. It will take you less than ten minuites to complete the test.

Nice site, but with all things free, they have in hidden in there, that after a while, if you want to continue using the software, you have to pay $4.97 or something like that.

The only hassle is making sure you know your local MP, Mayor, Major politicians etc just in case they come up, but as the test centers cover large areas its unlikely that everyone taking the test has the same MP anyway, so knowing the PM and Leftenant Governor is probably enough.

The richmond library thing seems to be a big hit, other libraries should follow that.
Talking of Gas, don't even get me started on that, seems to fluctuate like a yo-yo three times a day

This is the website for the library practice tests - saw it mentioned but didn't know if you had the address.
