citizenship interview
Citizenship interview tomorrow and we cannot find my husband's previous passport. The one he used when we landed. We have an offical copy of the record of landing, so will this missing passport matter?
The letter say bring all previous passports in your possession which implies that it is ok not to have all of them. |

It's 'OK', but if they don't believe he's been in the country for 1095 days he might end up with a residency questionnaire and a year's delay while they process it. I'd find the passport if you can.

I had my other landing paperwork, which they didn't pay too much attention, they seemed more interested in the passports. I hope not being able to find that passport doesn't cause any issues for you. |

Re: citizenship interview
have you sat the test yet. As I recall it was during the test that this was important. Don't want to worry you but they went through every single stamp in mine and Ben's passport.
A colleague at work had the same issue (missing passport), and had to submit further information after passing the test before they would proceed. She left so I don't know how much extra time it added to her application. if you are at the oath stage then this should have been dealt with and shouldn't be a problem Good luck! Let us know how it goes! |

Does his current passport cover the time period - if it doesn't then you may have a problem. You need to be able to prove that he has been in Canada for the 1095 days required in the past 4 years. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resourc...p/cp05-eng.pdf |
Re: citizenship interview
Ah when we sat our test , they made everyone attend the test centre , you sat at the front if you were over 55. they called everyone up one at a time to go throught he paperwork and then let the over 55s go when the rest of us sat our test.
I think the over 55s would have to come back and swear the oath on another day , just like the rest of us. It was a massive waste of everyones time. you literlaly sat there for hours while the did each persons paperwork. Ditto for the ceremony itself |

Re: citizenship interview
We're back. Lovely people, we had to see sommeone more senior re the passports and all she wants is for us to fax her T4s for the relevant years. She said as long as the judge, ie she, approves then we will hear in a few weeks for the oath.

Re: citizenship interview
Thanks all, but let's wait till we do the swearing. I like the swearing bit.
There was a lovely old hindu man there, praying all the time he was waiting for his interview. So sweet. Hope he had all the right bits of paper. |
Re: citizenship interview
Hi there,
I have a question, somehow related to the OP situation... I went through all our passports, and sure enough, we are missing one- I don't have the one I landed with. We landed 9 years ago, and I have the passport I got 2 years later... So, given that I have my passports for the last 7 years (all lived in Canada), that show I've been here enough time for citizenship, will I still be required to produce the one from 9 years ago...? When my citizenship application gets processed that is... |
Re: citizenship interview
We have a date for the swearing. Next thursday, phew. So our alternative papers worked just fine to show them we were here all along.
Anyone been to the oath swearing at Scarborough?. |
Re: citizenship interview
I swore the oath in Scarborough last month. Only one guest per new citizen as the room is small and we were a group of 96. So my husband and kids stayed outside in the waiting room and watched me on TV.
Whole thing took about 2 hours including photographs with the judge afterwards. Big emphasis on the responsibilities of becoming a citizen and how coveted this is. Also the oath had to be sworn in French and English with staff patrolling to ensure the oath spoken by all. We were told that if we remained silent no citizenship would be granted! The French was spoken at full speed so I think there was quite a bit of "rhubarb rhubarb" at that point. A lovely happy occasion and feels great to be Canadian at long last! |

You may have better luck. We had our ceremony on family day so everyone pitched up!
