Very easy - I always assumed that the consultants were there to make money for themselves and to help out immigrants still confused by having to fill in the forms in English or French. Anyone who speaks English fluently should be fine. Did our PR application ourselves too, never thought that a professional would be able to do it better than we would!
Our citizenship application took three years to process mind you, hoping to do our oath next month....

That wasn't my concern, I just wanted to hear from someone who had done it to confirm that it is a straight forward process. Have you done your citizenship application? Or your PR? Are you even in Canada?

I got our PR done by an immigration consultant, and even then, it wasn't an easy, straight forward process. We sent them what they asked for, and there was always some other additional info that the wanted. The CIC changed offices where our application was being processed, ( Buffalo NY to LA) and lost police checks, medicals and other documents in the process, which cost us money and time.

As it seems it is an easy, and quick process to fill out the application forms, and relatively inexpensive, then yes, I will do it myself, that was the reason for my post in the first place, to have that confirmed. As a busy man, it is often cheaper for me to pay someone to take care of certain thing, and using my time to do what I get paid for.
Yes, citizen. Forms are simple.

As a busy man you have spent more time finding out if you shoukd spend your valuable time filling out the forms yourself than if you had just googled, looked at the,m and completed them.

Now you can spend the money saved on paying someone to wipe your arse

It's a total of three out of four years to be eligible. So an average of 91 days per year for four years you could be out of the country.

The trick to doing the application is to have a list of all your absences, no immigration consultant is going to be able to do that for you, basically you have to apply yourself. By the time you've made that list you could have filled in the application, because that's basically what the application is.

And they do check, they go through your passport which is why you have to take it with you to the test.

When I did mine the girl in front of me was an American and only had a NEXUS card which did cause some confusion as they had nothing to check against, they basically just took her word for it.

Since then they've given CIC access to the CBSA PAXIS database so they can check more thoroughly because of all the instances of fraud (which from the press seem have occurred principally because people used bent immigration consultants).

Actually, I have spent more time answering your smart arsed comments than I would have liked. Couldn't you have just said " I've done it, it's easy", instead of being a twat?
There is no need for this forum then, if everyone should just google everything. As it is obvious, bats, that you have done it all, and not in need of any help, or willing to help, why are you on this forum? Don't you have any real friends to annoy?

I was under the impression that the forum was here so people with genuine queries could come on and get, not only the info they are looking for, but also hear about other peoples personal experiences. Not just for my benefit, I'm sure other folk that were thinking the same thing are interested to hear the responses.

Thank you to all the helpful responses , it is much appreciated. I have got the answers I was looking for, and I have also been reminded of why I left the UK in the first place!
