Childcare in Toronto

Hello there,
As we have now went 'In Process' we are starting to knuckle down into some more seriously detailed research.
We have a child that will be preschool age when we, hopefully, arrive in Toronto.
It will be necessary for both of us to work so we will require full-time childcare.
Our child is currently in full-time childcare so the process, and having to hand over a second mortgage payment every month, won't come as too much of a culture shock to any of us.
Currently, we are looking at West Toronto, possibly the area in and around High Park, or, on the East Toronto side, somewhere around the Beaches.
Basically, somewhere close for commuting but family friendly (we are open to suggestions on that too!).
Anyone have any suggestions on childcare facilities in those areas, or any area for that matter?
Or any general advice at all?
Everything and anything will be gratefully received!

Just be careful and have a good look round the day care before you leave the kiddies

I lived in the Beach for a couple of decades, that was a nice inner suburb, a place where one might have a trampoline and perhaps a pool without being horribly overlooked. Heavily anglo-Irish, Ealing abroad, if you will.
At the time my partner worked at Hydrokids, it was, and is, reputed to be a very good facility. When last I knew, 15 years ago, it was $850/month. The snag being that the waiting list was such that you had to register then consider conceiving.
Oh, and another option to the Beach/High Park, is Leaside. A bit prissy perhaps but you're willing to look at High Park!

I understand that the childcare system in Toronto isn't nearly as robust as it ought to be, which is a concern.
Such scarcity gives rise to unscrupulous operators and desperate parents, who need to work to survive and therefore they need a safe place for their children.
Whilst I would like to think that we are very diligent when it comes to anything concerning our child, it is a real concern nonetheless.

On the locations, I'm not really fussed on 'prissy' but more just looking for a decent location for a couple with a young child.
I certainly don't live in a 'prissy' location now, far from it in fact
, so any suggestions on locations will certainly better inform our search. Thanks again!
