Child support/ maintainence?
#1
My ex emigrated to Canada about 3-4 years ago, and left a debt of about £4000 in unpaid child support. The UK Child Support Agency told me that since he had left the country there was nothing they could do, so I left it at that.
Recently I have been advised that him paying this is a legal requirement, no matter where he lives.
So, does anyone how I would go about starting to get this back money, and money for my son in the future? Can I point out that my son is 11 and has NEVER got any money from him and it was him that said he did not want to see my son, not me saying he couldn't!
Thank in advance for ANY help - I don't know his exact address, just that he is in Whistler!

You could get a court order from the UK, but you would have to then lodge it with a Canadian court and try and get enforcement. You would be best advised to consult a lawyer. All you will get on here is opinions, which may or may not be right.

See above ref REMO. Surprised the CSA never told you about this however they are correct in saying they can't do anything just thought they would have pointed you in the right direction.....then again it is the CSA we're talking about...

^^^^^ What he said. It is relatively easy to collect and enforce, but you have to have patience. Keep onto them to ensure the Order is registered - and you will need a Court Order showing arrears and amounts now due. Where are you though? Your signature says WA?

Just had a good look through those sites - thanks so much!!
From what I can see, looks like i will need to contact the CSA here and hope that they will take it up with Canada!
Thanks again!
