Default Cheese

Whilst interviewing in Vancouver last month, I got the chance to hit the supermarkets to check out the produce, all seemed good until I noticed - Only *two* Cheeses!

Cheddar and Mozzarella! I'm moving out soon and cannot survive on such a meager selection of cheeses.

I'll be craving my Edam, Feta, Brie, Stilton, (insert your favourite cheese) ... the list could go on for ever!

Does anyone know why this is? Recommendations of any good cheese shops in the greater vancouver area would be greatfuly appreciated.

Cheers,
Brad.

Surely not?
Don't you have a Loblaws in Vancouver?
I was only remarking yesterday how many different types of cheese they had.
The had all sorts of strange mouldy foreign muck!

Ace!

You've made my evening! Loblaws (I haven't a clue what this is, but am eager to find out) may have saved the day.

Cheers,
Brad

Sorry, I've just looked on the Loblaws website, they only exist in Ontario and Quebec!

Don't look in the dairy section for the "premium" cheeses. You won't find much beyond cheddar and mozzarella there. Go to the cases by the deli in the store and you will find all the types of cheese you could want.

Safeways do a few good foreign cheeses, so do Superstore on occasion. Beware anything that looks foreign on the packaging but is made in Canada, it usually tastes truly awful.

I don't suppose it's much help but, at the St. Lawrence market in Toronto, there are two very large competing cheese shops as well as a number of deli stalls whrere they stock a range of cheeses. We often buy cheese there to smuggle to the US where cheese made with unpasturised milk is not generally available. I have to think that one can buy cheese in Vancouver, it's not the north pole, but, if all else fails I suppose you could get it delivered from here.

???? Just not looking in the right place. All those and a world of other cheeses can be found in the Deli section.

Erm, no. Loblaws, owned by the Weston family (One of canadas richest) has dozens of different brand names. Anywhere that sells "Presidents Choice" products has a link with loblaws. Out West one is canadian superstore, but there are others
