My wife and I are headed to Ontario, Canada and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on which shipping companies to contact. We don't have much stuff just a one bedroom apartment.

Assuming you are not shipping furniture - so it' just personal effects sending it as excess baggage is reasonable and quick (can just take a couple of days to somewhere like toronto)

Where abouts are you based?

If you don't have too much to take but more than a few cases then ask the companies you contact about Groupage services. This is where you only pay for the space in a container you use and they find other customers of theirs going to the same destination to share the freight costs so you keep your costs down.

Get three quotes and compare service levels (i.e. packing) volume (they will probably come out and do a visual estimate or may be able to do it by phone or send you a self survey) and timescale. Also look for members of the BAR Overseas and FIDI FAIM to make sure you are moving with a financially guaranteed, reputable moving company, and check their agents in Canada are too!

Oh, and one last thing, don't cut corners with insurance if you can afford it. Whilst most of the time nothing will go wrong things can happen to the best of movers (from a plate getting dropped to a ship getting stranded) and the relative cost is worth it for the peace of mind.

they are worth a call - i think i got quotes form about 18 moving and shipping companies and they were the best for both shipping and insurance.

These people seem good Im just waiting for a quote, you can do your own packing and save a bit of money they also ship out boxes if you've not got that much stuff to bring
