Is the CHC speeding things up, or not?

Hi All,
I expect this subject has been exhausted long ago, but due to my all too infrequent visits to the forum lately (sorry about that), i've kinda lost touch a little - so forgive me for possibly bringing up an old and frustrating subject!!
Anyway, as some may know, we recieved our AOR number in Nov.'04, and were expecting our medicals 12 to 14 months later - as implied by our migration-agent. However, upon contacting our agent last November, we were told that due to a massive backlog, we'd probably be waiting till at least May of this year. Well, a few weeks back, we recieved word stating that the CHC had released a statement announcing that they were going to do their utmost to process all applications recieved by Nov.'04, by September of this year - thus adding another few months wait yet again!
I've read and heard time and time again, that the Canadian immigration process is supposed to be speeding up, due to the Country being desperately short of manpower in certain fields - but it doesn't seem to be speeding up from where i'm sitting! so my question - for absolutely anyone that can possibly answer it - is;-
Is the CHC speeding up at all? Have we really gotta wait at least 10 months longer than was first implied? Is this process really gonna take the best part of 3 years to complete?
And of course, another concern, is whether we'll pass our medicals or not. (Once again, as some may know, my 13 year old son has cerebral-palsy, and although his disability is purely physical, he's confined to a wheelchair, and i have a mild hypertension issue - and we just don't know what the CHC will term as "an excessive drain".)
Anyway, i look forward to any answers or opinions.
Take care y'all,
Kev.

I wonder whether your consultant was giving you the correct information in the first place. We received or AOR in Jun 04 and were given 18 months wait. I think it may have even gone up to 24 months by Nov 04. I haven't noticed anyone getting their application through any quicker by using a consultant. I think October 04 AORs have been getting white envelopes recently saying Dec 06.
They don't appear to be speeding up at all. We have been waiting 20 months now. I think they have been concentrating their efforts on sending white envelopes to those further down the line.
Lets hope we see some action soon. It seems ages since anyone received any medical requests.

we are also NOV04 AOR with a 20month wait:scared:
we have been tracking this forum. If CHC were to act on time we should hear in July Aug, but looking at the delays, we expect a letter before that time to say there is a delay until spring 2007 at the best guess.

This may sound a bit cynical (hope i spelt that right!), but a part of me wonders if the wait is so long, in order to "test" the resolve and determination of those applying for permanent residency.
I've heard stories of people literally getting so fed up with waiting, that they cancel their application. I've also heard that people decide not to wait any further, and so choose to go down the works-visa route instead. Mind you, having said that, i've always been led to believe that the PR visa route is a lot more sure-fire, even though they seem to take an absolute age to acquire them!
Anyway, take care y'all,
Kev.

I have to agree with the comment about whether or not the consultant was being economical with the truth. I believe that often they are not totally honest with their clients when it comes to processing times.
Most of the people who I have read about that applied in Nov 04 were quoted at least 18 months. I think they told you a porky Kev to keep you sweet.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.
Take care.

Hi, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we received one of their white envelopes last week!, we got our AOR number September 04 and the CHC have told us that due to the back log our file could be looked at February 2007 - we were devastated to say the least. We are now using a consultant who has promised to get us a work permit which will take 4-6 weeks and will last for 2 years - expensive but we think it should be worth it.
Good Luck!
