Smile 'Cell' phones

Dear helpful forum users...
I wonder if anyone could help with a few "easy" questions...lol
I will arrive in Winnipeg with my Nokia 3220 a tri-band Phone and wonder if there are any outstanding companies that give a great deal on a sim card package. I want to keep my Phone (save money!) so I just need a sim and air time to begin with...pay as you go deal? I looked at a few but no one really stands out... help.

If you want to use your unlocked UK phone you are tied to Rogers or Fido (same ownership), they're the only GSM networks round here

I think by the time you've bought your SIM (25 CAD) and paid the connection fee (another 25 CAD) you're probably just as well to take up one of the "free phone" contract offers... we wanted 2 phones connected to a plan and brought our own from the UK. It was cheaper for us to take "free" phone deals than pay the various fees associated with getting a SIM only...

I had to go with Rogers or Fido as I text the UK a lot. If that's not something you want to do and you're happy to ditch your UK phone, you might want to look at Virgin Canada on pay as you go? I don't know much about them as I don't even think they had coverage in Winnipeg when we got here, but they certainly must now as they're selling phone packages in every shop. Many posters here speak highly of them. http://www.virginmobile.ca/
