Default Cash

Do you have to declare less than $10, 000 in cash when landing? OH is going over with $5,000 and wonders if he needs to tell the immigration official..
Cheers

You must declare what you're asked to declare on a form or by verbal request/demand. If an immigrant is arriving with $5,000 cash I cannot imagine that would be of concern to an immigration/customs official, providing all documentation is in order.

If he is "landing", i.e. getting permanent residence, he will needs to prove he has sufficient funds. If he is just a visiting then there is no need to mention anything unless asked. If asked he should be totally honest.

you must declare anything above $10,000 CDN. No need to declare anything below that.

Its not just cash over $10,000, bank drafts, money orders of $10,000 or more, must also be declared if you are carrying them through customs.
