Hi all, just a quick question here. We bought our UK car seat here with us when we moved to canada and want to sell it as its no longer needed. Anyone know if a UK car seat can be sold in canada ? I've read about US car seats not allowed but not sure of regulations around UK carseats.
If it can't, where can i dispose of it ?

Insurance would most likely be void as the seat will not be Canadian maple leaf stamped and inspected. Up to u if u want to sell it? Maybe sell on UK eBay

Im not sure you can even sell a used Cdn car seat...

UK seats, while generally superior, lack the all important CSA approval mark.

CAA offices will take car seats and boosters for disposal.

Nope you can't sell a UK car seat. Actually, it's illegal to use one here. All car seats must be CSA approved. I assume your UK one wasn't.
And yes, you can sell a used Canadian car seat as long as it's not expired.

Foreign car seats are illegal in Canada so you won't be able to sell it. I emailed an OPP officer before we moved and he told me not to bring our car seats (3 of them!) when we moved here because they were not legal. So we gave them away in the UK before we moved and bought the exact same ones when we got to Canada. I was pretty annoyed! To dispose of yours, cut the straps and put it out with your regular garbage collection.

Yes to reclycling. Our local Eco Centre (reclycling centre) takes them so I'm sure there'll be somewhere local to you that will take it.

To prevent anyone taking it from the refuse stream and either using it or selling it for use.

The whole thing about requiring CSA stamps is frankly ridiculous anyway, the seat is perfectly safe and useable, its just legal/liability bollocks. Just jobs for the canadian boys testing products that have already been tested to death in Europe or the US.

OK I have to bring this back up as I saw an ad in my local swap/buy group advertising a carseat for sale, the lady couldn't upload pics because her mobile was a piece of crap, so offered to SMS them if wanted and people could PM her their mobile number. Anyway no problem there but we had some turd commenting about how "you need the model number and red seal to legally sell these" after every comment asking about it :lol: :eek:

Like right that's awesome and I'm sure the poor lady had these but as she said she couldn't upload pics.

That's because the laws changed in 2012. At that point, it became illegal to sell, lend or give away any seat manufactured before 2012 unless it met whatever the new required specification was added from 2012 onwards.

Im glad this thread was started we are moving over in October, we were going to bring car seat for our Daughter. Looks like I will have to hire one when we get there with car hire until we buy one.
My only concern is that we are being picked up at airport by company, am going to have to request a car seat for 3 year old with pick up
